I'm just wondering if anyone on overclockers who owns a rabbit knows if this is normal.

Basically when we pick the rabbit up, we can basically lay him on his back, which does in no way harm him, and it's as if he is hypnotized, with his arms and legs in the air and shuts his eyes slightly, and he lets you stroke him and everything, he gets up eventually though, but it's so odd it's like he gets really relaxed or something?

Thanks
Will.

A friend owns a rabbit. Its something to do with them being prey and when they are turned over onto their back even slightly they freeze and play dead otherwise they expect to die. Apparently it scares the **** out of them doing this so its not recomended.

Please tell me if my mate has told me a load of bull though, he probably has :D

Also sometimes, we can stroke his forehead, and he just sort of lays down, resting his head on his front legs, and if you move your hand away slightly, he sort of budges up to your hand, really odd like, our last rabbit would bite my fingers off going anywhere near his head.

Completely normal, as a bunny owner of several years all mine have done this, and the lying down on his paws thing means he's relaxed around you and contented.

As he's such a docile thing, you could probably put your face up close to his when he's lying on the floor, and then he will lick your nose, which is just the sweetest thing ever, and his way of saying he's happy and loves you :D

Sister's rabbits all did this, works on pidgins and sharks too.

Another cool thing is if you place a hand next to them they will instantly lean against it.

It's perfectly normal - however our rabbit doesn't like letting us do this. He is perfectly happy however running after us round the garden and standing on his hind feet (meerkat esq) wanting attention. :p

The other night he started thumping (usually he does this for attention), I eventually went out to see what was up (it was gone midnight) only to find a slug had somehow gotten into the hutch and was sitting in the food! Got rid, gave a bit of a stroke and not a sound after I got back in. He expects to be treated like royalty I tell ya! :o :D

My dog does both those things, it's because she loves being stroked on the belly. :p

Having said that she regularly sleeps on her back with her legs in the air... :\ :D

my rabbit does this ... it's so cute when they're on their back! sometimes he'll suddenly try to turn over again, but if your holding on tight then he stays still :)

Yep, our two do this. If you stay there long enough you even get groomed (well with Sooty you do, Sweep gets bored).

Neither of them like going on their back however (Sooty especially) but they do do the ultimate flops ever (literally kicking our their legs and landing on their sides, so funny to watch).

We have a crossbreed buck and he is the same as that, if you stroke his head and stop, he will push his head under your hand for more strokes, i have tried to get him on his back to 'trance' him but had no luck yet he wont let me. Otherwise though be glad you can do it as we had one that as soon as you bent down to pick her up she would throw a wobbler, some are easy to handle others just never will be.
