Behind you... Naked!
To be more specific

ZOLTAC 8800GT 512MB
XFX 9600GSO 768MB

Id have thought that the 9600 would be a better level in the family, but the 6 clearly a drop back, but what about the GSO v GT ? I dont know.

I have had a look on the net for any info but I seem to be gettign a mixed bag of answers?

Has anyone actually gone along this path?

Basically, I have sent off an old 8800GT and the GTO is what they are sendign back and I would like to know if itsa fair card to send back of not?

Thanks.

So, basically, even though the 8800GT is an old card now, Im truly getting a shafting?

Ok, thats great.

Thanks guys.

the gso are rebaged 8800GS's
They overclock really well and run quite cool - it it's a step down from a 512 8800GT especially at stock - less processors, slower memory.

I think the fan controller on the XFX is stuck at 100% too (but that might just have been the actual GS model)

GS/GSO don't work with some via chip sets - so thats another downside :(

Its not mate, it is a gimped 8800gs with 768Mb of DDR2.

A 9800gt is what you should get as it's pritty much the card you had.

I would kick up a fuss about that. There is a version of the 9600GSO, which is a rebadged 8800GS though.

There are two different specs for 9600GSOs, one a badly cutdown version of a GS and one effectively the same as a GS.

9600GT = little bit below a 8800gt, and is similar in performance to a 8800gts 320 iirc.

For an 8800gt i would expect a 9800gt in replacement

I have Emailed them and told them that Im not happy.

I fully agree...

I have been looking at the prices of these cards and considering that I paid a fraction over a ton for my card and now they are offering me somethign for half the price?

The sickening thing is that even if they did give me a 9800GT or a 250GTX they would still make a little profit on it because its still £30 cheaper than my original purchase.

Money grabbing yet again.

Ok wow, thanks for the moral support etc everyone.

Ok, they have now been back in touch and they have asked what I would suggest as a replacement.

I simply told them that I felt that the 9600 was too much too little ( andgiven that in some places you can get the 9600 for under £40 new these days, I felt the offer a little insulting ) and I said taht I want either an 8800GT because thats what I paid for, or better.

As my offers, I pointed out both a 9800GT model and a 250GTX Model. I dont mind which but they are both under £80 and given that I bought my 8800GT for about £100, they are still making a ticy £20 on top of the sale are they not?

Lets see how it unfolds anyway.

They have not been nasty about it in anyway, so it will probably go smoothly.

It doesn't work like that. Just because you spent £100 on a card say 2 years ago doesn't mean you can get a card worth £100 today. You should get a card of equivalant speed or higher, which a 9600gso clearly isn't. Ask for a 9800gt/x/x+

I don't see how they are making £20 on it? The're having to supply two cards for the original £100 you paid, thus losing money if anything.

They're only obligated to provide a card of similar or greater performance under warranty, a 9800GT/S/X/250GTS would cover that.

I have done.

I dont think you get what I mean.

I bought the card for £100 and yes, it was under a year.

I dont want a card that costs £100 for the sake of it, I want a card thats the same performance or better ( As I am entitled to by law ) and also if they are unable or are unwilling to do this, then actually yes, I can demand a full refund of the original £100 amazingly enough.
It comes under the distance selling act of October 31st 2000

No no no no no no !

I didnt say that I wanted BOTH cards!!!

( Although it does look that way in your post fatty )

No, sorry, I merely point out that both the 9800GT and the 250GTX were both available for £80 and so one of those will be what I would like.

I pretty much said, these are your 2 cheapest cards, give me one of those.

Sorry for the confusion.

Oh and yes, I paid £100 and now they are returning an £80 card to me, so yes, they are still making an extra £20 on me.

Yeah, thats what I meant!

I forgot to also add too, that they have said that the 9800GT is acceptable to them and that they will be posting one ofthose out instead.

Job done.

Now I kind of wished they posted out the 250GTX LOL

Now I can get back to playing Solitaire at 2400x1900 at long last!

Hope you are able to sort this out quickly, I know being stuck without a decent gfx card can suck heavily.

As the others above have said - the 9800GT is the most similar card. The GTS 250 (some examples here) is slightly better performing, but they may feel generous (not a huge price difference between the two).

Depending on who you are dealing with, you may be able to ask for an ATI equivalent card. In that case, an HD 4850 (some examples here) is around the same price of a 9800GT and performs a bit better (about as fast as a GTS 250).

Best of luck getting it sorted out.

Edit: Just read your update, really good to hear. You will likely get the exact same gaming performance as your old 8800GT, but it should run a bit cooler as it is using a 55nm core (compared to a 65nm one).
