Printer ink...a scam??

A cheap laser printer is the way to go, seeing as they can be purchased for the price of a set of original colour ink cartridges.
Even better is getting a laser that can be easily and cheaply refilled - my Samsung toner can be refilled for just £15.

But that is just black only is it not? With my CISS on the 265 I print full print A4 in hight quality on gloss paper and CD/DVD's for around £12 a year in ink.

It depends on what you're using it for. Like the OP I rarely print colour so the cheap laser works for me.

For the OP I think a laser might be better as the labels he prints would be more water resistant.

edit
Cheap refills are available for colour lasers as well.

Was thinking of getting a laser just for the letters etc I write and using the 265 for photos and discs. Like the speed of a laser.

Whatever laser you get - b/w or colour - if you're thinking of using toner refills, check that you can actually get the refills first. Not all are refillable.

Inkjets just seem like a scam. I've always had laser. I bought my mum a Brother inkjet and even with minimal use it chewed ink at an unbelivable rate. I junked it and bought her a laser too. For photos, well there are plenty of cheap, quick online options. If I ever needed a colour solution at home, I'd just get a colour laser!
