'Angry voters' attack Hazel Blears' car while she tours her constituency

10th August 2009

Expenses scandal-hit former minister Hazel Blears' car has been attacked while she was knocking doors to canvas for local support in her constituency.

The Salford MP, whose claims are being investigated, had all four tyres slashed and the front window smashed on her Citroen Xsara Picasso.

Constituent Norman Eaton, 51, who spotted the MP in her car after the attack, said: ‘This is the people of Salford telling her that they don't accept what she has done.'

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At about 6.25pm on Sunday police in Salford were called to Cemetery Road, Weaste, following a report that a car had been damaged.

"Between 5pm and 6.15pm, offenders had smashed the windscreen of a parked grey Citroen Xsara Picasso and slashed all four tyres.

"No-one was injured in the incident and officers are now investigating."

You reap what you sow, or mindless criminal damage? Some slight irony surely in that she was the communities minister :p

I'm more curious as to why somebody who earns as much money as she does drives something as awful as a Xsara Picasso?

why park that close to a junction when there's all that space behind?

Woman driver.

@topic: Be funnier if she parked the car and went to knock on someone's door only for someone to get in it when she wasn't looking and drive off.

Police are investigating? Just goes to show that it pays to be a corrupt politician then. When my Dad's car had the window smashed, quite a few CDs (all back-up copies thankfully) and about £10 in change stolen all he got was an crime number. He never even saw a copper!

Egh, Picasso. How tastelessly middle-class. It sums up the total lack of finesse or imagination that I expect from the pathetic excuse of a government we currently endure.

I'm suprised this kind of incident isn't a more regular occurance.

The party conference is going to be entertaining...

From the BBC's website video it looks like the car is in the raod at the junction. Im confused! it looks like it was attacked when it stopped at the junction but she was reported to be out of the car so who was driving it or did they attempt to escape fearing for their safety?

Something seems off here.

I wouldn't even class that heap of junik as middle class. It's possibly the worst car I've had the misfortune of driving (and not by choice!).
