blu-ray drive and the SATA disc drive on the same cable ( modular) ...i.e can i mount them on either side of the case or do they have to be close together

They will each connect to different SATA ports on your motherboard. Do you have enough? How many HDDs do you have and what is your motherboard?

dont know yet, but i'm only planning for one SATA and a blu- ray only

Why? The blu-ray drive should be able to function as your DVD/CD drive as well.

unless its for a DVD-RW. most blu ray drives are only DVD Ram.

It's like how all DVD+/-RW burners are also CD-RW burners.
