Asus 9600GSOs at £36 on OCUK for (T)his (W)eek (O)nly

Interesting but I've never seen a 9600GSO/8800GS with 512mb of RAM that had 96 shaders. It's normally only the 384mb and 768mb ones.

Very intresting how they have relocated the chip on the pcb layout...
and a few sources say its a G94 chip - but very odd spec's with 512 of ddr2 and a lower 128 bit system bus.
Not a good gaming card - but might fold well

ok, so how does this stack up to a 8800gt? 8800gt uses a 256bit bus doesn't it?

Also, does anyone know of a site which lists all the nvidia cards and which is faster as I find the whole 8xxx 9xxx 2xx thing so confusing! :(

Here goes :p (for folding performance, gaming may differ slightly)

8600GT
86000GTS
9600GSO 512MB
9600GT
8800GTS 320MB
8800GTS 640MB

8800GS
8800GT
9800GT
8800GTX
8800 Ultra
8800GTS 512MB
9800GTX
GTS 250
9800GTX+
GTX 260 (192 shaders)
GTX 260 (216 shaders)
GTX 275
GTX 280
GTX 285
9800GX2
GTX 295

/man that's sad I could do that, without looking stuff up :o

What would be better for Seti, 2 of these or 1 Palit GeForce GTS 250 ?

Based on pure shader grunt, a GTS 250 would be a much better bet, 128 shaders vs 96. Even more so if clocked. Although someone who actually does Seti might be able to offer a better opinion :p

Wow the 8800GTS 512mb is faster than the 8800GTX! I think this may be my next purchase.

Thanks for the list, at least I know roughly what goes where now. :) Nvidia haven't exactly made things easy with their stupid numbering system!

Only for folding, since they both have 128 shaders, but the GTS can clock them much higher. For gaming they throw punches quite evenly.

That's good to know, I think the GTS may use less power tho, as it's newer?

I prefer lower power cards, less heat therefore noise... :)

It uses less power, and it has a better heatsink design. However I found it's nosier when turned up to 85%+, but that was due to heavy overclocking.

Yep.

Not to rub salt in the wounds or anything, but I did email your trust about my 8800GT which was for sale :( Since you were posting in a number of threads with them in.

Sorry for not getting back to you - I can only check my email from 1 computer, and I often get so many messages that a few get lost or stay unread if I haven't checked my email in a while... :o

I need it to replace an ageing 7800gt, but I'm in no great hurry as I'm not into my games as much as I used to be. :)

Ah, bugger :/ Thought they were good based off the apparent specs :p

Have mentioned this in the Customer Service Forum.

Just passing by :p I happen to own this card and noticed that it does have the 96 shaders you are talking about! or maybe not? I'm a noob so I'm not sure if the shaders on the CPUZ screen are the same that you are all talking baout?
