New ATI cards out in less than month?

I really want a new card to go with my i7 but tbh there was nothing wrong with my old quad core or this 4870.

Ah well, atleast I will have 2 rigs so bring it on. (but some games that need it would be nice also) can't afford a 30".

I must admit I am glad I didn't wait. I will be happy if my current cards last a year then sell them on and get new DX11 cards :)

Will it work though, i seem to remember large stutter problems with racing games and ATI cards ?

Personally I would love to switch from Nvidia to Ati.

The problem is nvidia caters for some features that ati doesnt, which I actually use:

Folding - massive higher PPD
Can convert some cards, or emulate others into Quadro for CAD
CS4 utilisation
Physix in games that support it.
etc etc.

If ati did all this I would have bought a 4890 and wouldnt have to live with capacitator whine either :)

I think I've started saving up at the right moment, I'll have the money by christmas! Hopefully, monies is hard to keep. :p

Just agony going without a pc at home just now... hurry up time!

Yep, i just hope nvidia don't come out not long after and blow ATI's cards out the water..
Then Nvidia will exploit that fact & charge stupid prices, personally I hope the ATI cards are amazing & Nvidia cards are also amazing & a price war ensues which will make it good for everyone in terms of pricing.

Competition is bliss in this market.

Yeah what we need is real competition, if the cards were almost identical in terms of performance then prices would soon become 'reasonable'. But this is computing, nothing is ever 'reasonable' lol

I think NVIDIA like the idea of being in the high end market charging 'high end prices'.

And I think AMD like the idea of being in the mainstream-high end market as they can charge less.

They each have a niche in the market, neither of which I think are prepared to risk loosing.

To be fair the 8800 (original) and the 9x00 series of GPU's didn't really have major competition at the time, and was great cards - however good cards from the opposite camp would have made the prices fall faster of course.
