Elderly vigilante ‘didn’t want to shoot’ robbers

I wonder how many bleeding hearts are going to attack this guy.

He said the bandits drew their handguns, yelling, "Where's the money? Where's the money?"

They pistol-whipped a worker and waved a weapon at a cashier's face, he said.

"There is no money," Augusto said he told them. "Go home."

Stashed away nearby was the 12-gauge shotgun he bought decades ago and said he had never used since a test-fire. He reached for it when he sensed one of the men was about to shoot, and pulled the trigger once.

"I hoped after the first shot they would go away," he said.

When they didn't, continuing to menace his employees, he fired again, and again.

I dont have to say what I think, someone said it better already;

"He died in the hands of God," said a neighborhood resident, Vincent Gayle, pointing to the blood-spattered pavement by the church. "But what goes around comes around."

Think they got the message to get out of the shop in the end?

If you pull a gun out at someone with the intent to threaten or use it, then it is perfectly reasonable to expect to be shot yourself imo. The guy protected his store and his staff, who knows who could have happened otherwise, innocent people could have dies. Good on him.

"But he was a victim, police said, and no charges had been filed on Friday."

Crazy to think you can shoot two people dead like that and not get charged for it even though he didn't have a permit for the weapon, can't say I disagree though, from how I read it he did fire off a warning shot but the armed robbers still persisted.

He was only defending himself good on him I hope no one does attack him for it as he was defending himself and his employees!

If you did that in this country you'd get locked up for a while.

Good on the bloke,

Not likely.
You are allowed to use reasonable force to DEFEND yourself. Which this man was doing. You can not shoot people in the back or chase people to hurt them.

why do you think it was crazy he was not charged.
He was using self defence, gave plenty of warnings.

I think he was a tad confused at the way your sentence was worded, it made it sound like you were saying the guy did good, and then saying he did more than was necessary. :)

If you have to defend yourself the USA is the place do it, you go to rob with violence and a gun and you know the people you are about to rob can use leathal force, they took the risk and got the pump-action enema. If they had robbed him and his staff and maybe killed some of them they would have been bragging about it and moving up in whatever gang they were in.

And that's what I find confusing, is why you think they would have been charged. Left the rest out as it wasn't what I was confused about.

If you did it in this country you would be arrested. Likely you would be later released or charges dropped, or found innocent eventually, but a legal process would ensure it takes forever and a day to see you as 'free'.

We do not have the right to defend ourselves using firearms, simple as that.
We should have that right. If someone is on my property or threatening me on my land, I should have the right to remove him using any force I choose as reasonable.

Lets make the criminals run for a change, they can be all tooled up, best they end up bleeding to death on the street for it, it will discourage others from taking a similar action.

Dude just forgot it, it was an offhanded comment that was probably better heard than put into text form, I was using it more as slang, what I meant was "wow it's surprising you can do that in the states and not get charged" , I don't disagree with it, it's like me saying "it's crazy you can legally smoke weed in Amsterdam", I don't actually literary mean it's 'crazy'.
