Had the car remapped today

I don't know why Vauxhall bothered - they should have just done more VXR variants of the VXR8, a car with a platform thats actually designed to handle power rather than handle reps who dont quite sell enough sofas to get an Audi.

ouch. lol

Nice improvement but.. its FWD?

Does it torque steer much? The New Focus RS even with its revoknuckle or whatever it is Torque steered like a mother still and thats similar power :x

And of course once again it was none of the BMW fans who introduced BMW into the thread, such is the way with OcUK...

Yes it was ....

I'm a closet BMW fan, it's just the ones I like (e90 series) are too damn expensive !

it does, but not uncontrollably so. You just learn to live with it and drive accordingly

It understeers long before you get any torque steer :p I was watching the TG review of it this morning as it happens, and even completely stock you couldn't get any power down going around corners :p

Ignore any oppinion you form based on the top gear review. You can't turn ESP off on the vectra ( you can the traction control) so top gear resorted to pulling fuses and disabled everything including the IDS+ system that controls the electrcally adjustable dampers

those that have been on passenger rides at meets with me can confirm that the car drives nothing like it did on top gear

I know that the TG review was subjective, I was just having a poke ;)

Some serious power there, but I bet it still understeers :)

You comming to the north yorks meet ? You can come for a ride and decide for yourself how bad it is

Alas I'm too much of a pussy to drive up all that way :D Before I had the suspension sorted out on the 'Teg, it would understeer when accelerating hard in the corners and that has only a fraction of the torque you have. Since it is reverred as being one of the best handling FWD cars aound, I have no doubt that there will be an element of understeer as there will always be with a FWD car.

That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it though! :D

Indeed I wouldn't buy ANY car without seeing a top gear review that loved it first!

oh wait

Top Gear never reviewed my car :(

What, slowly and surely up to a maximum speed of 125mph? Or you mean you can now tow a really heavy caravan?

Because one thing a train won't do is accelerate really quickly so actually I doubt it pulls like a train at all, what have you been pulling? :p

that bit just made me lol :D

thing is, its not just that the top gear review was biased. They wrecked the handling on purpose 'cos they started pulling fuses when they were told ESP couldnt be turned off.

then passed this off as the standard car without a word as to what fiddling they had done. Annoys me that all

but yeah of course it understeers, but not enough to detract from the driving experiece. Plus it means you can drive it on the limit with a nice safety net.

Did you drive all the way to norfolk!? Christ I would have loved to seen your car round these parts. Fastest thing i usually see is an mx5

Some nice gains there but more importantly the improved delivery, would love to see how that compares on the track against the a standard one. I wasn't too impressed by the ones I drove, preferred the Astra's handling.

I hear this a lot from Vectra owners - what is your source for this?

dougie from vauxhall. He works at luton as the "VXR Brand" manager and is also a member on the vauxhall run vxronline.

They found the pulled fuses in the press car when TG handed it back.

apparently to get an "even playing field" they like to test all cars with ESP and Traction Control off. On the vectra the Traction control can be turned off, but not the ESP. Apparently they went pulling fuses to find a way to disable the ESP after they were told by vauxhall it couldnt be turned off via any switch inside the car.

thing is though i see no reason for it not to be true

they want to turn ESP off for a level comparison

they get told no

so pull the fuse and accidentally pull the fuse on the IDS+ system as well.

Plus i know for a fact the car doesnt handle that. As does anybody who get a ride in one at the VXR track days. Torque steer and understeer yes, but nothing like in top gear.
