I've started writing this thread about 6 times already but stopped, and, I've tried to be as respectful as possible. But I can't hide my anger at my experience in one of their ".digital" shops today. I was simply waiting to get a certain product from them (I needed it today so I wasn't bothered about paying extra). When I overheard a clearly IT illiterate person buying a laptop and overheard the advice being given to him, not only was it incorrect, but it was so terrible the recommended "addons" for his machine wouldn't even work with it! This guy (who looked about 40) was recommending all sorts to him, forcing stuff onto his order without any care about what he actually needed.

In a way I can understand how people at this types of hell holes need to make a living, but practically forcing people to buy things they have no idea of, whilst in full knowledge it wouldn't work with the product they where buying is almost criminal. Does anyone know how I can formally complain against this idiot?

Thanks

D

Skippi90 made a similar thread a week or two ago ;)

Sales person trying to force a large quantity of carp onto his sister and mum....

Should've turned to the guy and siad "look mate, your being fed full of ****" and saved him a few quid although then you would end up having to be his new best IT mate

Yeah I should have, and actually I feel mad at myself for not doing so, but TBH I was just there to get something and get out. Though that is no excuse:(

I shall now warn my father not to buy anything from them. And I have. Computer illiterate parent warned. He learned how to take songs off cds and put them onto his laptop. I was so proud

Many years ago I was asked to leave a certain store that, contrary to it's name, sells more non PC stuff than it does nowadays, as I pointed out a salesboy was giving incorrect info to a clueless older couple.

This is what annoyed me most, the guy was saying "well my son knows these things but I don't" and I just kept thinking to myself "Damnit man ring your son FFS". I should have said something

Yeah my dads always asking me stuff. Most of the time I can help, and if I can't I have another more tech-savvy person to ask and pass on the info. Never trust a sales person

Yeah you could have said "look mate, ring your son because these clowns are trying to rip you off"

but then again you're not some kind of consumer police so don't feel bad about other peoples ignorance :)

Don't go to competitorsthen. Should have gone to OcUK or told the poor guy to go to OcUK rather than watching him being fleeced.

Like I say, I do regret that, but I can't do anything about it, unless complain to someone hence WHY I created the thread... did you read it?

The only time I listen to them or their competitors is when I went to get my Xbox 360. I did get the three years insurance. Though they tried to sell me an Elite. NO BAD SALESBOY BAD

I hate going into these places as I often overhear that sort of thing being told to their customers. It's not my place to convince people that they're being ripped off though, that's for themselves to realise unfortunately, as much as I've felt like intervening (I even work in a rival local shop), I'm not going to undermine their staff on their premises who are just doing their jobs, even if the company policy is push everything.

It's like this in all sorts of businesses. I'm sure there's some chaps right now getting told they need x, y, and z for their car that's just been serviced, and the garage is charging a small fortune for it, even when it's not strictly necessary.

It's up to the buyer to make an informed decision and realise that what they're being told by a SALESPERSON is not necessarily what they need. Working where I do, I never try to push sales, only be helpful, but then that business is just a small one, perhaps that's why. Still, I'd never expect a customer to flat out take my word for it without doing their own homework on an expensive purchase.
