As it has now been over 2 years since the smoking ban, what are peoples thoughts on it?

Should it be abolished or extended? (and why)
Do you think it has made a difference?
Has it killed pubs or was it just the nail in the coffin?

Can i have a poll please?

It's lovely how it is
It should be abolished
It should be extended further
It should be amended to allow exceptions

It's made no difference to the pubs I go in except that they're much nicer places to go and I don't go home stinking of tobacco.

Please don't bump any more two and three year old threads.

best thing the governments done in a while.

Hated coming back from nights out or just going for meal sticking of smoke.

Do you not think most clubs just stink of BO and farts now though?

Do you non smokers go to the pub any more than you used to?

Good thing as far as I am concerned. The only pubs that closed are the ones that were holding on by the skin of their teeth. If people complain then they are free to go outside and smoke, and every pub I know of supplies cover and heaters for smokers anyway.

It didn't bother me one way or the other.
I've always associated smoking with pubs.

I'm a non smoker, lot's of my friends smoke and the ban doesn't bother them / us anymore.
We just sit outside at the pub, it's nice to not smell of smoke after a night out though.

What's your opinion on it ?

should be abolished. (I'm a none smoker)
Weatherspoons was taking a no smoking policy nation wide. If it was popular other pubs would have followed.
It has shut down pubs, it has wrecked the atmosphere.
the few people I know who said they didn't go to pubs due to smoke. Guess what they still don't go.
Clothes still stink after a night out, just sweet and booze instead.

Not that it really affected me.

Killed my local pub initially whilst I worked there, Usually the pub would be busy from opening until close, after the ban we didn't get more than 10 people in until 7 onwards, dayshifts were so boring. It's slowly recovered over the last year, but the last 2-3 weeks have been absolutely dead! :(

I do enjoy not having to sit inside where I have to put up with people smoking, although I usually go outside with my mates whilst they smoke :p It's definitely a good thing to have the ban though.

Hasnt affected me in the slightest...i like smoking outside so gives me more of a reason to go outside i suppose.

Anyway my bro and his family arrived from Canada a few weeks ago...staying till end of the month and he was telling me that in Canada they have extended the smoking ban to cars...well what the law says is that you cannot smoke in your cars if you have children in there..even if the windows are open or you have a convertible and the roof is down...talk about being a tad draconian although i can see the point of it ie to stop kids breathing in passive smoke....kinda sucks if your driving a long distance with the family and you cant even smoke in your car :/

It has been a positive thing IMO. I'm so used to it now that when I see people smoking indoors on TV or in films I'm a bit surprised. Smoking has retreated to the fringe which is where it belongs tbh.

That's a sensible law, he kids have no choice.

THINK OF THE CHILDREN.

Extended.

It hasn't killed pubs at all, if anything people who don't smoke visit them more.

When we've got kids and we tell them you used to be able to smoke in a pub or a club they'll think we're crazy, just like our parents used to be able to smoke in cinemas.

As I said in the other thread - be great if people didnt smoke directly outside the entrance to a public/private building - rather than extend it Id hope it was more enforced (8m rule as someone mentioned)...

ps3ud0
