Running th rig in sig, and as my machine is on 24/7 and ive seen all the fuss over folding i thought id have a read of the guide and i have to say it goes right over my head a lot of it :p

Is my rig anygood for folding? I have a E5300 CPU @ 3.4Ghz and a GTX 260 216 GFX plus theres also a 640Mb 8800GTS in there currently runningas a physx card.

YES! :)

I would only run a GPU client on your system if it were me. Since you can't currently fold with a GT200 card and an older series card (I think), I would stick you 8800GTS in the top slot and the 260 in the bottom slot. This will let you use your PC at full whack whilst still folding

But if you wanted to you could run either an SMP client on the CPU (will fully use both cores), or a standard client (fully uses one core) as well. If only folding on a GTX 260 then you would be set for anything from 5.7K-8.5K per day.

To fold on two or more GPUs you would need to plug both your GPUs into your 24" or make a dummy plug.

This guide is what I followed when setting up my multi GPU folding:-

No :D

You should Crunch and make use of both cards for Seti, easy setup with one or two downloads you could be up and running in a matter of minutes.

Cheers, Simon.

Yes! Fold for sure, since your machine is on 24/7 anyway might as well make the most out of it. Not only will you be helping mankind with medical research you will help team 10 :)

If you get any problems with setting up just ask on here, I've always found everyone very helpful.

edit: Plus we need all the help we can get, we're about to get stomped again :( :

On the brightside, that should be the last stomp for a while, all the big shots are now past us :( :p

No need for him do to Seti, you practically make up a whole team by yourself :D

Thanks for that (I am trying to make up for three years slacking), but you can't blame me for trying to redirect some extra gpu cycles to the team ;)

Cheers guys, sticking the GTX 260 in the lower slot isnt really an option as it wont fit, the 8800 only just squeezes in with the hard drives in there. I'll try and get it set up soon and report back

It'll still work fine in the top slot, just that windows will be rendered on it and it'll affect your score :p

You could whack Seti on the 8800GTS though, and that would keep Simon happy!

If your rig is on 24/7 anyway, then it's a no-brainer really. Just be aware that it will use a bit more power when it's folding.

I'd also stick to GPU folding. Unless you run the Linux client in VMWare, the E5300 won't score enough points to be worth the hassle.
