Core i5 2.66GHz vs i7 2.66GHz review!!

I wonder what the i3 Vs the i5 will be like.
If the i3 is not to far behind the i5 things are looking good for us P35\45 so on people.

I can't keep up with all this movement:D

Seems now best to wait for I5, when i had thought for months to get a I7.

Any idea when they will be released?

The power savings thing is kinda hard to quantify - performance per watt would have been better, since the i7 machine might have gotten more work done despite taking more power. It'd be interesting to see how the version with HT gets on.

I'm glad now that I didn't go ahead a while ago and buy i7 (920) 1366...the 860 is probably is what I'll go for now (with all things considered).

I will be honest - I haven't kept up with the CPU news recently. What are the main difference between this and an I7?

*EDIT*

Ah, it seems the socket and memory controller are the differences?

Also the LGA1366 i7s have hyperthreading and PCIe lanes are provided by the x58 chipset, the LGA 1156 i5 has no hyperthreading and 16 lanes of PCIe2 on chip.

Think I'm still going to go down the i7 route. Need my PC to do loads of processing of circuits next year at uni. Also, gives me a better upgrade path to eventual i9 I feel.

Looking good for the i5s however.

So basically you don't have the "fake" extra four CPU's that the I7 gives you (in other words you press CTRL+ALT+DEL and look at performance, and in I7 there are 8 CPU bars, in I5 only the four)?

If that is so, I assume video rendering would be far slower in I5? But maybe because of the few less cores I5 will clock a little higher? I am trying to decide if it is worth considering saving up and replacing My Q6600 + 4GB of ram rig I currently use.
