Anyone lucky enough to get a Google Wave invite? I signed up day one and got nothing, but my friend who only signed up last week just got an invite. :( Sad times.

I read that but i still dont get it...

So its a new way to instant message or a forum of sort?

How does this "google wave" effect joe public computer user.

Both of those things really. Could be used as a instant messaging client or you could create your own "wave" and use it as a forum. Or a website might set up a Wave to use as a commenting system on their site.

I googled it and dont have time to watch a 2 hour vid of people talking so wut is it?

i don't have time to tell you what is it either. Sorry.

Seriously though if you want to know what google wave is the vid is the best thing, you don't have to watch the whole 2 hours you know...

and wont :) cos in 3 days time BBC will do 1 min short in their Tech section and ill get a concise answer and more than likely think.. wow who really cares.

its ironic yes, my posts that is...

Google Wave is "a personal communication and collaboration tool" announced by Google at the Google I/O conference on May 27, 2009.[1][2] It is a web based service, computing platform, and communications protocol designed to merge e-mail, instant messaging, wiki, and social networking.[3] It has a strong collaborative and real-time[4] focus supported by extensions that can provide, for example, robust spelling/grammar checking, automated translation between 40 languages[2], and numerous other extensions.[4] It was announced in Google's official blog on July 20, 2009, that the preview of Google Wave will be extended to about 100,000 users on September 30, 2009.[5] At that point, the current view of the Google Wave Website[1] (which is a preview with the keynote embedded), will be replaced with the application itself.[2]

From my understanding it's a bit like MSN and the Facebook group pages. You can invite people in to your page and talk instantly to each other (like MSN), however people arriving late or after the chat can still see the chat log and contribute. You can also upload and send each other files and pictures either instantly or delayed (when the other person logs on). Excellent for organising group outings, holidays and such if you are that way inclined.

It could be quite good as it fixes the problems of MSN without having all the major issues of facebook (which is pointless for organising stuff...)

Brilliant. :) You get two accounts when you've signed up (one to test with) so my friend has given me his test account to play around with. Very nice so far.

Well maybe. But the exciting thing about google wave is the technology and the implementation. It's cutting edge technology, and likely to be the way Things Will Be Done in the future. HTML5, drag and drop, realtime aspect. It will quite literally change the face of the web once again. It's like when inline graphics could be added to web pages for the first time. It's like when javascript suddenly allowed web pages to be dynamic. It's like the changes css brought to web developing, it's like when google themselves changed the face of web search.(do you REMEMBER searching the web before google? !!) It's going to make the web pages of today look like the way web pages of 1995 do now.

from what i hear it's more like a collaborative document system, not much use unless your social group use it too.

nothing to see here move along
