Glass pint glasses to be replaced with plastic

More pointless and stupid ideas that fail to get to the root cause of the problem from our government...

Are we surprised? I'm not, they are incapable of actually suggesting that people are at fault, that parents are at fault, and that society needs a serious rethink in the UK as large parts of it no longer have any personal responisbility. The problem really is that the people they need to target are generally traditional labour voters...
Target them how exactly?

Target them how exactly?

Removal of the benefit trap and make relying on the state rather than yourself always the worst option would be a good start.

The introduction of state dependancy correlates nicely with when crime started to rise strongly in the UK.

Crime has risen with population not because of benefits. The opposite, if people got nothing to eat they would obviously commit crime.

I honestly thought more of you Dolph.

All of which is more difficult to use as a weapon, especially a weapon as effective as glass.

sodding nanny state though....

sick of it!

We'll all be wrapped up in cotton wool before long.

Fix the binge drink culture - going back to the old licensing laws would be a start (ie actually asking the question whether an area needs another bar or not!). Banning Glass is not going to solve the problem.

How are we all being punished? Drinking out of a plastic glass is not a punishment.

How can you possibly even say that? I sure as hell don't want to be drinking beer out of a plastic cup rather than a proper pint glass.

This is punishing responsible drinkers just to stop the few who ruin it for the rest of us.

How about getting knives and guns off the streets before replacing every piece of glassware and cutlery with plastic party ware.

I've got to get out of this thread before my head assplode.

Seriously, "waa waa waa nanny state" this, "why not ban barstools" that. How can you knock the government for doing something that will most likely decrease the severity of violent assaults in pubs/bars, it will even reduce accidental injuries.

Oh and wait for the kicker, the real zinger THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE! Unless of course you're an exceptionally opinionated weiner who thinks that plastic has a taste.

The injuries from glass are much worse than from fists.

fists can and do kill people, not sure how likely that is with glass however i can imagine it is significantly less likely then a massive blow to the temple with a fist or elbow

How about getting bars and clubs to stop use plastic glasses? It's easier and will have a positive effect.

And this is where i specifically disagree. I doubt there's any figures specific enough to prove either one right though.

I didn't say benefits, I said state dependancy, you can have the first without the second, but we do not, we have a system that encourages state dependancy over personal responsiblity in a signficant segment of society (as witnessed by the generations of claimants)

With regards to the crime factor.

Page 14, figures are per thousand population, so the increase in population is irrelevant.

What a joke. Bit of an over-reaction if you ask me. The thousands of pubs that have no trouble what so ever will have to use plastic cups? Ridiculous.

Surely it depends what you do with the fist (or even foot). There was an incident in the town I grew up several years ago where someone was hit in the face with a glass/bottle after an argument. The man who did it then left and was followed by the other guy and his friends. They found him and punched him to the ground then kicked him in the head until he died.
Which caused a greater injury in this case? :p

There IS a downside. Plastic DOES taste awful compared to glass. How can you not taste it?

To be honest, I've never had a beer in a glass, and then in a plastic glass, from the same establishment. So all the foul tasting beer in plastic glasses I've had could just be down to certain places' pumps or something :p
