why make this and the dual fan version? and also release so close to time of 58**?

One reason could be, I'm not saying it's fact, is to shift the remaining pile of 4890 related parts they have left. Their thinking is that having a different HSF etc will make it more attractive to certain buyers than continuing to sell them on a reference PCB with stock ATI cooler. This might not be the best way of shifting old stock/parts but if it works then it will allow them to concentrate on 58xx sooner.

I would be inclined to remove the plastic cover. Unless it did anything for the temps.

This is about £35 more than the XFX XXX version which, on the face of it is the same speed and has a better warranty.

Apart from the small-boy friendly cooler (hello little boy - do you want to see my GPU cooler?), what's special about this?

- Aerodynamic Streamline Thermal Cooler

From looking at this, if you mount it too close to the front fan(s), the downforce generated by the cooler may actually push the graphics card into the CPU cooler.

Asus should spend more time getting the most out of the hardware via component level improvements, and leave the cosmetics to hairdressers.

Utterly, utterly HORRIBLE.

ahh the cluless people strike back ive yet to see a review of this card but the 4770 with similar cooler performed very well.

All the plastic bits of it direct the air flow in a very specific way its not just for looks
