It's not a hard concept.

I don't wish I was dead due to people (mainly my parents) being heartbroken. Just never born in the first place.

Edit: Sorry to be morbid and weird but thats what I'd change.

If we had FTL drives, anyone who doesn't like the state of this planet can bugger off and leave the rest to their petty fights. Doesn't solve anything for earth, but would make all those that left a lot happier. Those who choose to stay in misery on this planet, well, that's be their own fault. Those who are happy here, well done.

Not really - wasn't it Kant that said religion causes people to follow duty based ethics? Never think of the consequences, but follow your religion (and therefore duty) in decisions?

For me, it would definitely be to provide man with the means to populate other planets.

As a man my goal is to survive and pass on my genetic material, as a species the same. Our best chance of survival is to avoid putting all our eggs in one basket. It also appeals to my sense of adventure. For providing it, I would also expect a cushy cabin for the family and I.
 
Able to harvest nuclear fusion to be 100% safe and plausible and make it available to the whole world.

This would mean that oil & petrol would be cheaper so I can drive big cars and bikes, it would mean the tree huggers would have less of a case to fight for. The world would be a cleaner place - except for me and my big V8 car :p It would mean electricity would be cheaper, more efficiently produced, it would help people out of poverty being able to provide cheap electricity around the world. Oh and probably do wonders for all that CO2 crap they go on about.

Seriously though it would be fantastic. We'd end up using much less oil/coal and that IMO is a good thing - as much as I hate tree huggers it would be great to get electricity that way.

The other one I'd do would be have stable superconductivity at room temperature and beyond.
