When ever I get a new console I have to sniff at all the newness. Open the box and sniff. I then sniff the manuals, then all the hardware. I think I may have a console fetish.
I open the box, plug it in and play it. That's about as "ritual" as it gets. Sometimes I don't even bother playing it straight away. Think it took me a 1/2 day or so to play my 360/PS3 when I first got them!

I carefully take the console out of it's packaging, then rub it against my groin to mark it with my musk.
This warns off potential predators and makes ownership clear.
take my time opening it, taking out all the peripherals, then the console, take a look at it and then find a nice spot for it
