Loadsa people keep slating how england/Britain is a crappy country. I beg to differ, im proud of our "posh" accents, im proud of our cockney slang, booze culture, british dry humour, our patriosm to our armed forces..

Meh, random thread but just thought id say lol.

Plenty I am proud of being British. Plenty which I am not of.

On the whole, in comparison to everywhere else in the world, being British still means something to me. Both current and heritage.

For all the places I could have been born, there's a lot worse places :) I wouldn't say I'm "proud" though. I can only really feel proud about something I've directly contributed to.

Sometimes, but it passes. My biggest frustration are people who think I'm not entitled to feel a little disillusioned with my country; the same country that's shaped me into who I am. Such people are almost universally the very same ones who are happy maintaining the current status quo as they're happy with it. Sure, the country could be a lot, lot worse but that isn't to say it is all it can be. We have huge room for improvement.

It's my home and there's no place quite like it. But sitting back and thinking "Good show old bean." just isn't going to make today's problems go away.

We shouldn't be showing the door to those who have the balls to point out what's wrong. We should be listening to them and setting a plan of action.

I'm proud of the accomplishments this country had made over it's history, especially in the area of engineering and innovation.

I am proud that it stood its ground in ww2 when bigger countries stayed on the sidelines for a long time and that it has a NHS and still has a lot of power relative to its size. I was not even born here but my ancestors were from here before they moved away.

theres plenty to not be proud of though

Nothing to be proud of really, proud of accents and booze culture, you really were scraping the barrel weren't you, I only hope you were being sarcastic or ironic.

Personally about the only thing I'm proud of is the NHS.

I am proud of it in many respects. Most people are moaning about the doom and gloom and it makes me want to punch them in the mouth. They spin the same fecal matter everyday.

I think the south has crap humour.
Im proud of our boozing, i think its funny how we couldnt care less, although im not proud of the scum that go out and cause trouble boozed up.
im from the north, we dont do posh accents.

our patriosm to our armed forces..

What patriotism? Im in the armed forces, I fail to see much respect given to the armed forces in britain as opposed to places like america. We get treated like ****, we're under funded, understaffed and we take a lot of stick in places we're based off locals. The few shops that used to offer MOD discount seem to be stopping it now too - great that students still get it though?

I am certainly not proud of modern Britain. A morally bankrupt "idiot culture" that rewards bimbos and ill-educated morons with millions of pounds, for doing little to nothing important. Someone can earn 100 times what the prime minister does for for being a singing and dancing puppet or booting a ball around a pitch a couple of hours a week, whereas a nurse working a 65 hour week saving lives can barely scrape by.

Add to that the fact that we're basically 60 million people who want to be american. Politically we have gone from the most powerful nation on earth, to an indifferently regarded suburb of the USA, both politically and culturally in 100 years.

So, no, I am not proud of Britain.

Proud of some aspects and ashamed of others as I think any good citizen of any country should be.

Britain has achieved a lot and spread some pretty groovy ideas around the world but also some shocking things have been done in our name as well.....

People that are nationlistic to the extent of zenophobia are racist idiots and people that feel a need to be guilty or apologetic for the ignorance of our great grandparent are morons.

As a country that has been so influential in recent history Britiain has to proud of and more to be ashamed of than many other nations. As a country that is loosing influence that seems to just become baggage. White/Western guilt seems pretty messed up to me.

I think of this country as a pretty special place and I appreciate that but that doesn't stop me thinking of lots of other places that are pretty special too.

Not any more: I'm getting on a bit and therefore a bit of a Victor Meldrew but I'm ashamed of the "booze culture" and the general lack of social standards etc.

I'm not a snob by any stretch of the imagination and I like a drink too; neither am I a religious zealot ... but the scenes that we witness on our screens from both here and abroad appall me; mindless, drunken, arrogant and selfish ****s! they give us all a bad name, especially in Europe but around the world in general too.

There are many good, moral, altruistic people out there but I'm sorry to say that they seem to be getting fewer by the minute.

Why do people of today always blame someone else? ......... it's the government! .... it's the system! etc ..... NO MATE! it's the general selfishness and lack of social responsibility together with apathy and ignorance etc.

Ah! thats better! .... a good rant always helps.
