I could probably max RE5, and I don't have a quad core, SLI or 50GB of RAM. It's nonsense. To make this post contributive to the OP's question though, why don't you just go and download some demo's of new games and see what takes your fancy?
All I'll say is that good games aren't solely based on the graphics. For me, Far Cry 2 is a good example of that. I still haven't finished it because the repetitiveness actually makes me sleepy. And I'm not being horrible about the game for the sake of it there, it actually does make me want to drift off. The most fun I've had in that was running over Zebras.
