Just in time for the official launch of the 120 GB PlayStation 3, PS3 Firmware (v3.00) will be available shortly. As detailed during gamescom 09, 3.00 will introduce a number of great features, including “What’s New,” a redesigned status indicator and Friends List, and support for new avatars and dynamic themes.

We look forward to your feedback once the update goes live.
 
Update: We're running the update now and the changelog that shows up on the PS3 has two new features we hadn't heard about: simultaneous audio output across connectors and control of video playback (slow motion, fast forward and rewind) using the right stick. Nice!

OK i finish downloading it and installing it , but were the bbc iplayer?, i thought the people in the uk was suppose to get this?
 
The whats new bit is quite good, it shows the last 3 games you played and if they're in the drive or PSN you can launch form there. No obtrusive adds as it only shows when you highlight it or select it.

It's under a new section in the XMB called 'Television'. I just used it.

Agreed, i was afraid it was going to be like the whats new tab you're forced to view on the xbox, but i actually think it improves the interface as i instantly launched the arkham asylum demo from it. Worked really well.
 
Just a heads up, on the JPN whats new thingy store look for the picture with africa next to the LBP thinf for 200Y. Its a free animated Africa sceensaver/background with zebras running about, look cool.
