I saw this thread "CSS servers now up" and decided to sign into my steam account for the first time in about a year to enjoy some late night OCUK CSS, only to find I've been banned.

Okay then , I think to myself. Then I get my brother to login to his account for me. Try a few times, doesn't login. Try password recovery, but guess what... they have absolutely no record of his account's existence. Oh my dear god.

This is absolutely ridiculous. It's the second time it's happend now, and I'm not impressed.

Screw their "Zero Tolerance Policy" They can cram it where the sun don't shine.

I am NOT going to give in and buy another copy, THREE accounts is just too far. I'm not rich and I've had enough.

I'm sure I haven't been phished, as I've never entered my password in anything but the steam login window.

Has this happen to anyone else?

Someone cheated on your account, someone might have guessed your password or it might be your brother but I'm pretty certain someone will have cheated on it.

Does this mean every single game you own on steam you cannot play online?
I've never been unfortunate enough to be banned or care about reading up on VAC :X

:D

But no I haven't. I've had my account for nearly 6 years and I've never once been compelled to cheat.

Same ive had my account since steam release and i have never been hacked. Best thing to do is change password every so often and dont let anyone else use your account.

I've not had my account cheated on but I've had it hacked, god knows how they guessed my password it's not something easy like 123456789 lol. I hardly play steam games anymore, TF2 I got bored of a year ago, maybe I'm missing out who knows.

you simply cannot get VAC banned without cheating (or someone uses your account cheating).

VAC bans are 100% permanent, on a per-game (or perhaps it was per-engine) basis, and can never be removed.

also, valve never delete accounts.

Never had anything on my pc hacked or ever had a virus, I don't know how people do it, just get a decent AV and don't open stupid files from the internet.

If you run lolporn.exe then you are asking for it tbh

This is the bit I don't get. Your brothers account has disappeared? How many games did he have on it? Valve don't just delete accounts. This is more worrying than your account being VAC banned multiple times, which just tells me that you have a weak link in your security and are being exploited.

I have 3 accounts, that I use

mine, my brothers and one at my mum's house (so we can have 3 people playing at once)

I didn't log into my mum's one for about 19 months, and it was just there ready when I next logged in.

Never had a single problem, but I don't do stolen passwords etc

If you got bored of tf2 a year ago you've missed out on a lot of updates.

I did the same, and now I'm loving it again.

I remember a time when VAC bans ran out after a year or two. And there was a time where VAC was so bad that it was banning people that didn't cheat so they had to unban everyone.

And no, they won't unban you, even if you had your account hacked.

their policy is ridiculous. so what someone cheated big whoop. it's only a bit of fun playing online. it shouldn't be a lifetime ban, 1 month would be acceptable.

murderers irl get off from life imprisonment can't see how someone who kills a few people online have to obey to adhere it

I'm guessing you got banned aswell? :D

Cheating in online computer games it quite possibly the saddest thing I have ever encountered.

(and I've witnessed coach spotters)

They tried that. Then they tried 1 year, then 5 year bans. Guess what? The cheaters kept on cheating.

If you hack on an online game it is pretty damn weak truthfully. Seriously, you have to cheat to win to make you feel good about a virtual score? It isn't as though you will get in to a clan, earn money or gain anything other than "wow I am spoiling peoples games! I rock!"

Back when I used to play CS a lot I used to think the people that cheated are the most pathetic of people, cheat in single player games if you want (I did after I completed KOTOR 1 and 2 for example, so I could get all the fun stuff early to try out different story options) but otherwise it is pretty damn weak.

I've not been VAC banned but I've had a steam account suspended due to paypal messing up. Steam support were incredibly unhelpful (as were paypal). In the end I just issued a load of chargebacks through paypal for steam games and got a new account with the refunds. Quite annoying even so.
