Need to improve my cooling so have been looking at the antec 300. But i've realised it doesn't come with intake fans so i'd need to spend at least £20 on intake fans anyway.
For that money, is it worth going for the 900 instead? Is it a better case?

yes the 900 is better, though the 902 is even better again if you can afford it, the 902 really is a good case
300 is basic
900 has better cooling as stock (incl 200mm top fan), and control over that cooling too
902 has lots of additional features such as filters on fans

Can we just clear this up a little, you can control the fans on the 300 and it has fan filters. You talk as if it doesnt have those "95thrifles"

i'm trying to get my q6600 up to 3.6Ghz (with the help of Big.Wayne) and need large amounts of air across my tuniq tower. My Icute case just isn't up to it hence the need for a decent upgrade

Having used both cases for customers. The 900 is a decent case for any enthusiast wanting to upgrade and change things around frequently. However, the 300 is an excellent all rounder and the best case in it's class even if you need an extra 12cm fan at the front. It is basic but built well and very spacious. Don't let the price fool you. If your on a budget, then go for the 300.

edit.. the iCute case is total ****. I broke the CD thingy on it as after 2 mins. Fortunately the retailer took it back.

Ha! exactly the same thing with mine... i now have to open the front of the case to put a CD in!!

would buying extra fans just negate the saving of going for the 300?

I have the 300.
It comes fitted with two exhaust fans top and back. These fans have individual 3speed controllers. There are mounts for a further three fans. Two at the front (incl inbuilt filter) and one on the side. I haven't needed to fit any extras on mine as the amount of air being drawn through is quite substantial already. My i7 is running 3.8Ghz and runs from 40-78C idle to flatout.

It's best feature is that it is plain. Beauty is in the eye...etc etc, but less is more and I like the plain black look.

The 300 is a really good case if one is on a budget. I used one for a build I did for a friend back in December. She still cannot stop smiling lol. Granted she doesn't use it for gaming so really cooling wasn't the priority here. Her fella uses it for the likes of FM2009 and nothing heavy as he has a PS3 for that kind of thing.

The 902 however, comes with pretty much everything that is needed to cool your components all fans except one (the middle one inside the case) are present.

However, I have to disagree with dr4g0nf1y saying the 902 beats the 1200 for airflow and cable management. I have both cases the 1200 being more spacious offers better airflow and cable management. Just my 2C :D

 the cheek!

Alright matey I'll take some photographs tomorrow of my two systems and you can see what I mean lol

plus if you think I can improve something please pass on your experience :)

nope you get two fans included - one rear exhaust and one top exhaust but granted you need to buy a front intake. This is still a decent case despite having to purchase 1 extra fan.

Oh yeah sorry, the 2 are missing from the front. I built a pc for myself using the 900 and another for my mate using the 300, and I perfer my 900, higher quality then the 300 I think.

I have a 300. Cant comment on the other case im afraid but can tell you what i like about the 300 and hope that helps!

For the price, it really is good. The 2 fans it comes with are pretty quiet on low settings and pretty noisy on high, but offer good cooling. Build quality is good and has everything you need.

I havn't fitted an intake fan to my case, maybe i should who knows lol - but my temps seem pretty good to me.

I overclock my AMD phenom II quad from 2.6 to 3.2 on standard CPU cooler lol, and get temps of 55 under full load with an hour of stress.....so i'd say it is pretty nice for cooling. Maybe im missing out not having the intake fan and a better cpu cooler, but just to let you know its not essential!
