Six months in jail for a drunken grope?

Before anything else, let me just state that I categorically DO NOT condone this man's actions.

However, am I alone in thinking that the sentence passed down to him is disproportionately harsh?

Not only six months in jail, but seven years on the sex offenders register!

I know it's possible that there's more to it/him than is reported, but if not... jeez.
 
Well, that hardly is the greatest journalism, but it is sexual abuse. What do you suppose his punishment should be?
 
Six months is perhaps a little excessive, but rightly so on the sex offenders register. It is not acceptable to go and grope ANYONE. Being drunk is no excuse.
 
should have got life tbh i would hate that to happen to me if i was a woman. If this happened in a third world country like tunisia or france they would lose there hand putting it in the pickle jar tbh.

thinking about it i think maybe a fine and comunnity service would have been a better punishment, since the prisons are packed enough as it is, but agree with being put on the sex offender list.

Clearly he deserves to be punished. And yes, some jail time would be in order. It's the significant portion of a life on a sex offender register that seems most out of whack.

Maybe I'm misjudging the OcUK moral barometer, but if I were in the reverse position, and had an unknown woman grab my crotch or stick her grubby mitt down my undercrackers on a drunken night out, I'd want some form of justice, certainly.

But I'd feel uncomfortable knowing that she would be officially considered a sex offender for the next seven years.

I really wouldnt. if I did, I would have double standards, which I don't.
 
Think about it your in the pub after a game of footie and wearing shorts you bend down to pick something up and some bloke quickly shoves his finger up your backside and when you turn round he is grinning.

How does 6 months sound ?

Is that really that much differant to what this guy did ?
 
What is the world comming too! cant even pinch a girls ass without getting banged up! Ammuses me that someone can get a prison sentence that equals that of a far greater crime for something so minor.

to be honest if he had simply pinched her bum then a smallish fine and maybe some community service would suffice but what he did was shove his hand up her skirt and I think there is quite a big distinction.

Fair enough, if penetration of any kind was involved, then that changes things.

I read the article as that not being the case. Maybe I was wrong.

She was probably an old slapper wearing nothing but a glorified belt anyway.

and to think people who drink drive,assault e.t.c. get less :o

(Though agreed if penetration was invoved then that is a bit different.However, the article reads like he just touched her bum or something.)

Completely agree with you, people commit far worse crimes and get less of a sentence, how on earth is that justice. Christ if I was given 6 months for every girls arse ive pinched i'd be doing life by now! :P Likewise for girls that have pinched mine!
 
I think that without knowing more about the circumstances, nobody here can really judge whether the sentence was proportionate.
