I fancy a change so please list reasons why I shouldn't do it.

I'm looking for a decent example for about £8-9k which should have between 35-40000 miles on the clock.

I should get £5000 if I'm lucky for the ST220.

Thanks :)

If you just 'fancy a change' it wont be long until you 'fancy a change' again and you'll have lost a huge packet of cash.

I cannot imagine you being satisfied with your "change" to another Ford ST for very long. The change itself is meh, and the novelty will wear off very quickly. All you would be doing is buying into more risks - more risks of maintenance problems, more risk of depreciation.

You're buying into all of these risks with little gain.

This...

However I was the same until I realised how much cars were costing me for not much gain. I would think the Focus could potentially feel like a down grade (assuming ST-3's worth getting are not in that price range) you wont be getting climate or leathers to name a few luxuries.

I've actually wanted a Focus ST since they came out, so long before I bought the Mondeo. The reason I bought the Mondeo was because I needed the bigger car but now with my son he can climb in about out the car on his own so don't necessarily need the 5 door car (even though you can get a Focus in 5 doors).

Also, the fact that you can get a Focus ST to match the Focus RS' performance for not that much cash really appeals to me.

Ok so it's not really because I fancy a change, but because I want a car that appeals to me more. :p

Depreciation will happen with any car unless I buy and old clapped out banger. My current car is depreciating a lot faster than a Focus ST would I think.

Both of these cars are at risk from maintenance problems and will probably cost similar to repair anyway.

That is a good point though. I have 4 months remaining warranty on the Mondeo so after that then I think that'd be a good time to change so if anything were to go wrong then I'd be safe.

I am not talking just about the nature of the Focus ST re. maintenance - I am talking about the fact you have owned and fastidiously looked after your Mondeo for quite some time. You don't have this certainty with the Focus.

Don't you have another baby now? Try cramming all the stuff you need for a week away in the boot. ;)

Yeah I do. I don't have a problem putting the baby seat in the back like the missus does. And I don't have weeks away ;) Not for a long time anyway.

I guess i'll wait till they've came down a bit more then. Will have another look next year. (Unless I win/inherit a whole lot of money then i'll go straight for the good stuff :p)

Do it, but get the five door if you have kids. Even in tight car parks having a three door is a pain and thats without kids!

I probably wont be able to make the next northen mm or you could have had another ride to make your mind up.

Do it just to get an ST220 off these forums :D

If it was me I wouldnt do the change, as the 9k will soon become 11k and more as you start modifying it as the Focus is a lot more suited to mods. Also the depreciation will be more and you won't really be getting that much more performance as standard, but will be losing some practicality. Save your cash Peter.

I wouldnt bother. If you got bored that quickly with the ST220 then the Focus isnt that much of an upgrade, if any at all.

Take the extra you're gonna spend and buy a second hand track bargain, 7 replica or something and have some fun at track days

Already got a shell to donate... just need to learn how to build cars first :p

I would keep the car for abit and save enough cash to blow on a sick ride. Allow the ST it's pants. My mates S3 blew it out the water.

Did you seriously just post that?
