Rate your driving ability

I'm probably a 5-6 in all the categories. Nothing special, but I seem to be able to stay out of trouble.

Only section where my score has dropped recently is parking. The mk3 mondeo actually NEEDS rear PDC (which I haven't got). It's actually impossible to know where the rear of the car is when you're trying to squeeze into a tight spot (stupid rounded bumpers, coupled with a really high back window). Oh, and the thing is needlessly massive.

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions = 8/9
7) " wet/icy conditions = 7/8
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape = 9 but only if i've put it out of shape.
I assume you have extensive racing experience or something?

Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was just a bit of fun. I wasn't aware we were following super strict guidelines for a serious post. :p

Who can really comment on what anyone has put? No one can. We all have different perceptions of what makes a good driver. In addition, one persons 5 might be another persons 10 and vice versa.

For example: I rate my father as an excellent driver. In 45 years of driving he has never had an accident, either his fault or otherwise. Yet I would rate him probably a 3 or 4 for most of the categories because he doesn't drive fast or ever find himself in the situation where he needs to "correct a car". That to me is a far better driver than I'll probably ever be.

I've ben driving long enough to know how to correct a car if it's out of shape, I can put a car out of shape easily and in a controlled fashion. Snow and Ice have never ever bothered me and I can drive fast in a smooth manner in either wet or dry.

Petter Solberg would make you look like Maureen from Driving School. As he isn't a 10, you can't be a 9 ;)

1) General awareness/anticipation
2) Parking ability
3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco?
4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions
7) " wet/icy conditions
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape

1. 8
2. 6
3. 7
4. 8
5. 7
6. 8
7. 8
8. 7

I've done some driving courses at work that were immense fun! Including skid pan.

And yes, this thread is crap.

1) General awareness/anticipation
7 - in day to day driving...above average.

2) Parking ability
9 - It's gibraltar, im used to parking in ridiculous spaces every single day of my life.

3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco?
6 - Smooth enough...

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
6 - Hmm...I usually let people by in junctions, give lost tourists a wide berth...

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
7 - Good, as far as I know :)

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions
8 - *cough* very empty motorways in spain *cough*

7) " wet/icy conditions
6 - Doesn't rain much, certainly lower my speed to match, rarely driven in icy roads so probably a 3 for that..

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape
8 - Placed various fwd/rwd/4wd cars in trackdays seriously out of shape, sometimes on purpose, and I feel very confident of correcting problems given a car I have a little experience with.

1) 7
2) Would have said 6 on this, but I recently had a massive 2mph wall fail... So now... 3 :D
3) 6, varies day to day...
4) 4, varies but I'd say a little below average
5) 8
6) 7-8 in my car, average/maybe worse I guess? in anyone elses
7) 7 although I wouldn't be going "high speed" in heavy rain/ice
8) 5, only been in this situation once at relatively low speeds, kept it straight and in lane...

And yes, this thread is crap.

If you don't like it, don't read or post in it.

I revived it because I thought it'd be interesting to see how people have changed in 3 years and also be interesting to see what 'new' people (ones that haven't posted in it before) would rate themselves.

1) General awareness/anticipation
For this i'd say a 9.. I find that I am adept to spotting emergency vehicles from a mile off.

2) Parking ability
8, I can reverse into almost any bay, but can be useless with Paralell parking sometimes.

3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco?
Going downhill.. a 7, my clutch and braking is normally fine but I can be occasionally a little jerky.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
8, I'll be courteous to a lot of people, Busses included but if you dare do anything wrong I do tend to blow up in a bout of rage :o

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
9, just 'fine'

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions
8, again fine.

7) " wet/icy conditions
7, can drive fine in the wet but I once span out on a patch of ice in my Cooper from which I ended up in a ditch :)

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape
2, as above :D

Oh bla bla bla, i was merely re-iterating what fox was concerned with.

I clearly find some entertainment in it or I wouldn't have posted.

1) General awareness/anticipation:
10 - I can actually see stuff when I wear my glasses for driving. I can spot a woman driver a mile off....

2) Parking ability:
10 - My girlfriend says I'm good at parking and better than her she's always impressed when I get it in a tight spot.

3) Brakes/Clutch control:
10 - Haven't changed my disks/pads in years and there is a clunking sound when I brake; it doesn't stop me being smooth as silk.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
10 - When people don't demonstrate proper lane discipline, I only give them the middle finger as I burn past them on the inside lane.

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
10 - I got 33/35 on my theory test.

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions:
10 - I have driven in California and Texas. That was hot and dry. Broke their speed limits too as in America they drive slow.

7) wet/icy conditions
10 - I have driven a car in Norway, Siberia and Alaska. So pretty good.

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape
10 - I just pull forward and re-park it slightly straighter.

Easy test this....

:D

Realistic evaluation of driving ability based on thread content might somewhat be skewed by lack of a clue

1) General awareness/anticipation = 4
Sometimes I just don't see people until very late but haven't ever hit anything, just enough to scare the wife
2) Parking ability = 8
I actually enjoy parallel park in the tightest street spaces, but in supermarkets I can often be found well away from the entrance across 2 spaces
3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco? = 2
I break far, far, far too late and hard (really must try harder)
4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? = 4
This score is getting lower the older I get
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? = 8
Pretty good, I like knowing what all the odd signs mean
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions = 5
Average, should really be better
7) " wet/icy conditions = 8
I actually enjoyed the snow this year, lots of fun
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape = 4
Never had to correct anything big or at high speed, if it had been I'd have probably opted for the hedge

1) General awareness/anticipation - 6 - Get caught out quite rarely, but I have been once or twice
2) Parking ability - 6 - Can park pretty much anywhere, but not always straight
3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco? - 7 - Nice and smooth.
4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? - 4 - If they're a learner, i'm fine, however if they're just really really crap, then I get annoyed
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? - 2 - Can't remember any of it off the top of my head, but I know it when needed to on the road
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions - 5 - Never really tested it, but i've never got out of shape when playing above the limit
7) " wet/icy conditions - 6 - No accidents/skids/anything, but I don't push it
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape - N/A - Never had to use it.

Ah this old chestnut!

I wonder if atpbx is going to be driving for Ferrari at Monza?

:D
