Hi all , I'm a bit of a film buff and was just thinking how bored I am getting with most of the new mainstream films that are coming out. Just wondering if you could recommend some films that were largely or wholly overlooked by the media that I could perhaps dig up and enjoy.

One of mine that I would recommend is a film called "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... And Spring" (2004)

"a 2003 South Korean film about a Buddhist monastery which floats on a lake in a pristine forest. The story is about the life of a Buddhist monk as he passes through the seasons of his life, from childhood to old age." (wiki)

And heres the trailer :

I like Switchblade Romance, as well as Requiem for a Dream, however that's probably not classed as underrated.

City Of God

/thread.

thats not underrated in the slightest, everyone knows about it. Infact is the first thing someone lists, when trying to be underrated cool man. :o

The rocketman. A classic slapstick, that doesn't give a ****, with suitable quickfire genius.

I think 'Thin Red Line' may of been underrated in terms of mainstream appeal. I think it was unfairly eclipsed by 'Saving Private Ryan'.

'Donnie Darko' has a real cult following, but seemed to bomb at the box office.

The last korean film I watched was 'Old Boy'

Never again am I being tricked into watching one :p I fear the nightmares!

Donnie Darko didn't really bomb at the box office, it was just an Indie film with only the budget for a limited release. It was the fact that it was such a good film that interest really grew in it when it was released on DVD.

Mr Beans Holiday

I loved it. great cinematography, the language barrier really made a good use of expression and emotion. the climax was also brilliant, very well executed. Just how the protagonist was able to change the movie with his own footage to make Sabine's role in the movie live and with the adition of the precise timing that went with the dialogue.

Especially when watching the extra features and seeing how a few different scenes could really change the ending and ruin the connection the character had, I'm happy they did it :)

A very good movie
