Don't use Arctic Silver 5 as it takes up to 200 hours before see improvement in temperatures but MX-2 is no time limit.

I was aware that Arctic Silver took that long to settle in "as it were", however I'm not too fussed as of yet(temps look good so far) will have to look into that if I dont see a reasonable improvement by the 200hrs mark, or should I just buy some from OC, be honest ;) BTW, whats recommended on how to apply the MX-2

i have a H50 to install over the weekend,do i have to apply thermal paste to the CPU? or is the thermal paste thats applied already on the plate ok on its own?

Arctic Silver isn't a rubbish paste for 200 hours then suddenly becomes really good. It's okay out of the box/tube and improves very quickly, peaking in performance after 200 hours. I'd guess it's at 90% of it's peak within a few hours. But this is off topic anyway.

I have a new H50 in front of me and the bundled paste looks pretty thinly and evenly applied.

I wasn't suggesting that it's rubbish paste for 200hrs ;), what I should have asked was "will it get better as it reaches the 200hr mark and then stay steady beyond that" as I am a little curious as many people have suggested that it's better than "okay out of the box" as you put it. And if I haven't applied it correctly(I believe I have) I didn't want to wait until that time as the temps would have risen (only slightly of course) nothing to be worried about, obviously if MX-2 shows very little increase in temps after application, that would be preferable in my mind. Again not worried about temps but the cooler the better if you see what I mean.

I know you didn't, Bulldog did :) I find it hard to believe any thermal paste is that different from any other. It should just be used as a thin binding layer to even out gaps in the two surface materials. I bet if you took a grain sized drop of colgate and smoothed it out it would behave similarly.

Ordered the H50 today and 2 apache 120mm fans.
What is the best way for the fans and what temps would you think i would get at 4Gig in the antec 1200 case.

I had the same case as your. Max temp is between 61C and 67C with idle temp at between 34C and 38C for 4Ghz at 1.216vcore. Depend on your room temperature, and best ways for your fans to blow from inside to outside of the rear exhaust, just replaced 120mm (antec 1200 fan at the back) with 120mm apache behind the H50 rad.

I did try with pre-applied by corsair on the H50 max temp is 75C, try AS5 max temp is 70C and finally try MX-2 max temp is 67C.

Does this offer the same level of quietness as the zalman reserators?

What fan configuration are you guys using with this?
Intake at front and then anotehr intake on the rad? Wheres the exhaust fan?

Noise will depend on what fans you use, the pump will be quiet enough. The recommended installation would be with a fan on either side of the radiator in push-pull, which pulls cold air from outside the case across the rad. This might mean a slight increase in internal case temps, but it's worth it to get a greater temperature delta between the air and the rad. If you've got another fan exhausting air, this really shouldn't be an issue.
