Swine flu vaccines , should we take them ?

Do you know anyone who has died of swine flu ? Does ANYBODY for that matter ? It's the same scare tactics they tried to employ in 1976.

yes i do, you insensitive **** my cousin about 3 weeks ago, so if you had any sense you'd take the vaccine as it is a real virus and is a very real threat to lives.

Ehh...influenza vaccines are nothing new..they are used mainly to protect those most vulnerable: e.g. the elderly. Anyone with compromised immunity will be more at risk.

If people want the vaccine and it's in decent supply, there's no reason for them not to use it if they want to.

Oh and Swine Flu strains cause similar symptoms to what you call 'normal flu' (but what the rest of the scientific community would call 'the many other strains of the influenza virus') for a very good reason. (The clue is in the title, swine flu).

Nobody's forcing you to take the vaccine. For the average person, it's a simple choice. "Swine" flu strains, like other forms of influenza are dangerous, hence people want to take it.

Don't be a sheep to such conspiracy theorists. Such assertions are meaningless. Compelling maybe, but ultimately meaningless nonetheless..

I think the bigger idiot is someone who has a stranger pump them full of some crap with little or no knowledge of what it is or what the consequences will be.
The same crap that people have been taking for years? At school, we were given the flu vaccine every year for what they expected would be the strongest strain that winter. Old people are given this as a matter of course. As are millions of others.

The only difference is, this year it's called 'swine-flu' instead of 'flu', it's more contagious, and the papers are more interested. Other than that, nothing's changed. It's based on the same vaccine it is every year. And, given that, we know what the consequences of taking it are.

As soon as it is available I'll be having it.
I have a kidney condition so that puts me to the front of the queue.
Whereas most people can catch swine flu and get over it, somebody like me with a low immune system would suffer.

Just to add to my previous post, for reasons such as this and in your case, taking precautions is sensible. :)

Im not saying it's like a car , I'm saying that cars are also a real threat to life but you don't see people substituting them for bicycles.

Ok, so with cars, the solution to this danger is to give up the convenience of cars in order to ride a bicycle instead. This makes life more difficult for the average commuter.

In the case of influenza, the solution to the danger here is to take a vaccine. Thus people give up the convenience of...what?

There's nothing analogous to lose in this instance, it doesnt fit..

in Holland and other places, they use bikes instead of cars, and have a much lower road death rate, so that's that proven wrong

I won't be taking it, it's just Flu after all.

If you don't want to take it that's fine, but do spare a moment to think if you are the type of person who might spread it to vulnerable. If you have frequent contact with the elderly or the ill, I urge you to reconsider.

NO NO NO

Absolutely not. We're a nation of hypochondriacs. Swine flu is no problem whatsoever to the majority of fit and healthy children and adults.

The elderly, people with underlying health problems and babies. Fine. The rest of you stop bloody worrying and get on with your life.
