Im looking at a KAWASAKI NINJA ZX 6R - any good for a 1st bike?

My budget is £800. Any other bikes you can recommend for around that price?

Thanks

Getting ANY 600cc for a first bike is a bad idea that may also be an expensive form of suicide

I got to that line and shut the window, that's a ****ing ridiculous thing to say.

If you want a ninja get a ninja, it only goes as fast as you tell it to and you could kill yourself on a 50cc if you ride like a spanner. Sports bikes don't murder people

Just remember, throttle isn't a On/off switch.

And if you left it on enough you will most likely be riding the floor for about 40m, but that's another thing!

For £800 I don't you will be able to get much of a decent bike unless it's damaged, are you good with mechanics?

I cant see you getting one for that price...well not a decent one .

Nothing wrong with a sparts 600 if u know what yer doing . But have a look at bandits/hornets/sv650/ etc etc But even £800 wont get you a lot ...its gonna be old / big mileage or very tatty .

Persil

Looking on Autotrader there is only 1 ZX-6R at less than £1000, and it's on for £999. That example has 37k miles and is described as "average condition and needing some TLC".

Have you tried looking at some more of the traditional "first bikes" - copied from the above link:

Kawasaki Ninja 250/500, Suzuki SV650/SV650S, Honda Hornet, Honda CB

There will be many more bikes available so you can pick and choose. Get down to a dealership and sit on some, see what you like the feel of, see what fits.

At the end of the day: "the choice is yours..."

Im after a first time bike, i wont be getting it until i pass my cbt (hopefully in 2 weeks). My needs:

Honda- i just like hondas bikes especially there hornets but that will be my second bike oneday:)

125cc- Think it will be good to start off with really until a couple years later ill move onto a bigger one.

150cc? You can only start on 125cc after your CBT.

Look into a Yamaha YBR125, £1900 new (I got CBT, + 1 years insurance and breakdown included in mine). Great simple bikes.

Absolutely, my first bike was a Ninja 6R 636, I had zero riding experience before I took DAS, and the Ninja was fine as a first bike, in fact I would still be riding it to this day if it wasn’t for a car driver knocking me off (story here if interested).

Many people say that a 600/sportbike is a terrible idea for a first bike, some of which are probably basing those comments on nothing and are just jumping on the band wagon I guess, but it boils down to the rider at the end of the day; me, I managed to ride within my limits and keep my head about me (constantly reminding myself that I’m still learning and the bike has massive power).

If it’s what you’re after and you can afford to insure, run and maintain it, then there is no reason not to go for one. But for £800, I’m not sure what you’ll be getting (must say I’ve not looked at prices for ages).

Best of luck :)

Scort.
