Just really echoing what has been said above:
Playing Guitar Hero / RockBand is completely different to playing an acoustic or electric guitar. Either the choice of 5 buttons to press, or 6 strings on a variety of frets... It's just so different.
I would say however, that if you enjoy Guitar Hero that it can be used as a stepping stone onto actually learning the guitar. I really don't believe that it's disuading kids from picking up a guitar and playing away.
I remember the first time I picked up a guitar and started playing, even now, when I finally get that riff I've been practising, or a peice of the song which I've been working on, once you nail that the feeling is immense and isn't matched.
For the record, I'm not a great guitar player or any thing like that and I started playing Acoustic before playing Rockband /Guitar Hero.
