Chelsea banned from signing players for 2 transfer windows

Liverpool have been ripping Crewe off for players for years!

In fact this whole saga has been going on for years, Spurs bought Gazza's Ma & Pa a house years ago so he would sign.

Agian the footballing authorities have opened up a massive can of worms

Well Crewe have done very well in the past. They've got an estabilished youth system and have brought through some fantastic players. They've also been compensated fairly (at market price) for those players when parting ways.

But if a player is poached and a fee is set by tribunal, it's very rare that the fee represents anything like a fair market price for the player, or that it makes any account of the future potential of the player.

does anyone know why man utd youth sucks so much if we have such good facilities and poach so many good youngsters at 15?

Utd scouts dont see the right players early enough, or going through a phase of seeing players spurt later than that age group?

Who was the last player of all the top four teams in the EPL that came through from the youth team / not bought

There cant be that many at all - Terry at Chelsea joined at 14 (although I cant find how much he cost), I think Gerrard joined Liverpool around the age of 9 ( although even then it wasnt his first club - Im sure there was no fee involved though ;))

Ryan Giggs played for Utd since the age of 14 (Scholes was only training unoffically at this age with Utd and didnt join until a season later at the age of 15) Neville was 16 when he joined

Arsenal have been buying 16 year olds or so for a few years now (Theo is the most senior one I can think of at the moment) , but I cant remember the last one that has been through the 1st team before him from school boy age

Im probably wildly inaccurate and there are loads of others, but I cant think of any more - not exactly a huge amount ....pretty slim pickings

I agree on the ban signing U18's concept, several countries already have that, it should be worldwide. Or maybe just ban signing U18's from outside the club's country?

I can't wait until African clubs start reporting French teams for stealing their youth players, they've been doing it for years.

Not quite the same as what Chelsea are alleged to have done. That's just your typical 'tapping up' case which happens more often than not.

The clubs are selfish, at the end of the the person wishes are more important, these clubs are just thinking of themselves. maybe the players themselves should pay a % of their wages to these clubs.

Surely, though, the Liverpool one isn't tapping up (at least based on the BBC article)? It says that they put in a bid for a few hundred thousand which was rejected by Crewe. The player has now said that he wants to leave.

I don't see how this is tapping up; it doesn't imply anywhere that Liverpool have been in touch with the player himself, merely that the player got wind of the bid and decided that he wanted to go. It's not any different to Alonso or Ronaldo saying that they wanted to join Real Madrid after heaaring about the respective bids for them.

Gibbs, Wilshere are both in the Arsenal First team Squad.

They havent made it to the 1st team /definite starters and also wherent they just signed when they where 16 + ?

Forgotten about ACole - but wasnt sure how old he was when he arrived, but certainly fair point about him and clichy

being that we (man utd) havent had a good youth player come through our facilities in the last 10 years, id say that it doesnt make any difference at all.

all this poaching, all these youth players...and we still had to buy all of or current 11 (barring maybe Neville, but he is just a stalwart from a previous generation)

Sarr
Neville
Rio
Vidic
Evra
Nani
Carrick
anderson
valencia
rooney
berbatov

only other notable possibles are;

Giggs
Scholes

Sack Fergie, Sack the board bring back Big Fat Ron

Vive la Revolution !!!!!!

Tom Heaton (Playing in Championship)
Danny Simpson (RB - Newcastle)
John O'Shea (Utd First Team - 4 Premier Leagues, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 1 Champions League, 1 World Club Championship, 55 International Caps)
Jonny Evans(1 Premier League, 1 world club championship, 1 Champions league runner up)
Craig Cathcart
Lee Martin
Richie Eckersley
Chris Eagles
Danny Higginbotham
Danny Pugh
Ryan Shawcross
Wes Brown (320 first team appearances, 5 Premier Leagues, 2 FA Cups, 1 League Cup, 2 Champions Leagues, 3 Community Shields - 21 England Caps)
Darren Fletcher (200 + First team appearances, 3 Premier Leagues, 1 FA up, 1 League Cup, 1 Champions League, Capped at every level for Scotland and 44 senior caps)
Frazer Campbell

Most of which played in the youth set up a one time or another. If not currently at Utd, then they are making a very respectable living from the game in and around the top two tiers of English Football.

I would love to know what measure you use to determine the supposed success or failure of our youth set up. If you can point me in the direction on any other youth set up in England that has produced no mark players with over 13 Premier League medals between 4 players then I would be interested to know and I suspect a few envious eyes from North London and Merseyside would do as well.

Football by and large is a results business and you cannot argue that Between Brown, O'Shea, Evans & Fletcher they have a medal haul to be the envy of a lot of footballers on bigger wages and that have commanded huge transfer fee's and are supposedly world class. Not to mention the odd Champions league here, FA Cup there as well.

Yes indeed our youth set up truly does suck

Indeed, just because a lot of them haven't made it at United...so what? Few will make it at the biggest clubs in the world, doesn't mean they haven't become good players.

Wilshere is one of the longest serving Arsenal players. He's been at the club since he was 9.

Gibbs has been at Arsenal for 5 years, and before that Wimbledon, and that academy was shutdown.

Both are 1st team squad members, and within 2 years Wilshere will be one of the first names on the team sheet.

In terms of buying parents' houses I've always thought the biggest tapping up ever (if it can encompass that) is what Barca did for Messi. Pay for his hospital treatments (hormones?).
