IGN top 25 consoles (broken from the PS3 Slim thread)

the 360 with its 4 million % failure rate... aye class

Prehaps they went round and asked people how many times they'd owned each console, that would inflate the 360's score as everyone thats ever got one is on like there 4th cause of RROD

I'm technically on my 2nd 360, the first one died due to another error, not RROD.

Since January 2006 I have had no issues, not that I am still on the same 360 though as I went up to an Elite when NXE came out.

Anyway, your post was ridiculous. Despite the failure rate on the earlier machines the 360 is a great console and has brought more to the table this gen than the others.

As an owner of a PS3 I must say it's probably the worst games console I've ever owned bar the Wii, and I've owned close to 15 consoles in my life.

Errr Blu-ray.....

I was more thinking of gaming features, Blu-Ray hasn't exactly done much for gaming aside from reducing the amount of discs larger games will require. Which is only a small perk, really.

Uncompressed audio is nice, but that's only gonna be taken advantage of by a fraction of the user base.

Edit: I wasn't really including multimedia features so Blu-Ray playback wasn't something I thought of.

You're in the minority then. I've owned 3 xbox 360's in the span of two years(2006-2008). All RROD.

Please explain and give details why?

How has it only started to get going

Easy its only what 3 years old, halfway through at most, there has been no Final Fantasy game yet, No Gran turismo, No God Of War, no team ico game etc. Many of the other big games from last gen have only one sequal out at the moment, this is why i say it has only just started, certainly none of the consoles has got to the point where you could say its the best its going to be.

Well firstly we are talking about all the features the consoles have to offer, so lets not ignore them just because their not relevant to you ;)

Secondly as much as those features are limited at the moment, there a good chance that they will be appreciated/wanted in the future.

I agree with msmalls. This gen consoles should not be in any "top consoles of all time list." Unless you're basing the list of the first 3-6 months of that consoles launch, which ign clearly didn't.

My only thought on this is, when the next generation of consoles come and they're all inevitably using bluray disks for their physical media, surely then the PS3 should be regarded as a groundbreaking console? To overlook bluray completely seems a little too simple to me, there's so many benefits of bluray that will be utilized for years to come imo.

As other people have said, putting any of the current gen consoles in the list just doesn't seem right to me. None of them have 'played all their cards' and something could happen within one of their lifetimes that could mark it as the most important console of all time.

so how would halfway through be 'just starting'? And all those games are Sony games, so what you really mean is the PS3 is just getting started?

Out of all the consoles I have owned I have to say I am probably most disappointed with the PS3.

I am only keeping it because it plays blu-rays, Plus I am on my 2nd PS3, 5th PS2 and only my 2nd 360

And I have had my 360 12 months longer than my ps3

For me :-

PS1>Mega drive>360>Amiga>SNES>PS2>Wii>N64>PS3

Saying that though, the PS3 is showing potential and I am looking forward to when they start releasing these AAA exclusive games they keep talking about

I wouldn't say either have just started but I'd say there is still a lot to come. I hope for both consoles tbh, imo there are more decent titles to recommend for PS3 than 360 now.

Lack of quality exclusive games are the main reason. The only outstanding game to be released so far imo has been Uncharted, although I have not yet played Valkyrie Chronicles which is highly rated and I'm only about 1 hour into Demon's Souls. Nothing else has captured my attention in a big way. Other games like Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and Infamous I've somewhat enjoyed but in comparison to the library of games on the 360 and other older consoles the PS3's is pitiful.

The other big reason is the controller, I was never a fan of the Playstation controller when it was originally released but to be 13 years ahead without an updated version is shocking considering how uncomfortable it feels. The added triggers on the PS3 controller was a step backwards relative to the old controller as well.

No they are some of the highest rated and/or largest selling games of last gen, should have mentioned Zelda i guess as that hasnt had a true this gen version as the Wii one was a port of the GC game.
I also listed games that have had a sequal, consider last gen, if all consoles was listed on the first couple of years think of all the classic games not released that would be left out.

I've got to say the only game I'm still waiting for to hit next gen(bar the dream on ones like Jet Set Radio) is SSX, that really would make the console complete for me.

Don't forgot Sony are just now taking advantage of BD by putting two PS2 games onto 1 disc. Thats a good indication as to what is to come.

I mean it as in just starting to show exactly what this gen is about rather than just starting out. IMO 2010 when all the various motion control stuff is out will be an intersting part of this gens consoles.
