IGN top 25 consoles (broken from the PS3 Slim thread)

However, with the prevalence of analog sticks, the aforementioned limitation of the D-pad no longer became an issue. Even though the Nintendo 64 wasn't the first console to use an analog stick (the Vectrex in 1982 was the first), it was the first to allow full 360 degrees of movement, thus allowing it to become useful in 3D games. Its release followed Sony's larger "Dual Analog" flightstick and was subsequently followed in the industry during the fifth generation by the Sega Analog controller (packaged into Nights into Dreams...), the Sony "Dual Analog" gamepad (announced months before the Nintendo 64 Controller was revealed, but released to market after) and the "Dual Shock".

it would appear that sony didn't do it first, but they where the first to make it catch on

mircosoft copied there xbox controller from sony

Well MS actually ripped the dreamcast off with their controller. Look at the original xbox controller (fat one) and the dreamcast controller. The only diff is a 2nd analogue stick.

Could equally say Sony stole the guide button from Microsoft. In the end controller designs are fairly similar.

Well tbf the PSP had one of those buttons before the xbox.

Sorry buddy but the layout we accept today has two analoge sticks beacuse there needed, they don't just put the other one on for show do they ?

Well yeah, But you saying they're the innovators is far from the truth.

For 1, Microsofts Xbox/360 pad is closer to a Dreamcast pad than anything else.:p

Acidhouse, you made an incorrect statement and got ripped on. Now would be a good time to get back on topic to save face.

i wouldn't say incorrect, if anything it was me myself that corrected it and i just didn't put across what i ment very well, i feel you all know that when sony bought out the "dual shock" (which came out before the PS2 cause you could get a grey one for the PS1, which i had) they raised the bar

You tell me how to to improve upon that design ??? all xbox did was add "tiggers" and and move the left analogue up a bit... its the same bit of kit

if that is 'all they did' then how come so many people only like one of the controllers? I love the 360 controller but I find the PS3 controller very uncomfortable to use. Likewise there are people who have the reverse opinion.

So when Sony added a second analogue to a controller they raised the bar.

but when Xbox added triggers and moved the analogue...they did not? they just copied?

Might have someone to do with everyone being individuals and having there own tastes ?

The 360 controller is better for FPS games and driving games. I really have no problem with it apart from the face buttons and d-pad. I could honestly go either way. I've just been using the DS pad since the PS1 days and feels more natural to use when playing games.

Its all just a personal preference and no one can really win an argument over which one is better.

Same amount of buttons, what did they really add ? infact the 1st xbox controller didn't have the bumper buttons, it had two small black round buttons in the worst place ever, then they looked at the sony controller and seen the joy of the bumper buttons and moved the small round black buttons to bumpers ala PS controller

For the record btw.. I prefer the 360 controller as no ones asked, and i bet you've all assumed im some sad ps3 fanboy lol

No one thought you were a fanboy, we just all disagree with the point you're trying so hard to force onto others.
