Ok bought this ages ago and played about 3-4 hours of it and then got mind numbingly bored. Primarily becuase it was buggy, the radiation thing was again hillariously useles and the aiming and general shot to damage ratio was spaztastically annoying.

So, has this been patched, changed or modded since to be improved? Im looking for somehting like the 'Stalker Complete' mod that is available for the original before i reinstall.

cheers

playing this at the moment, tried previously but it was upto patch 1.508 and it was real buggy, currently it on patch 1.15.10 ,runs a lot better, no crashes

zia

Recently played through both CS and SoC(with complete mod) both were patched to latest but CS was much more buggy, I had many broken saves and blue screens, wasn't as good as SoC either imo.

Problem I had with STALKER was it just seemed to lack much in the way of focus, at least in the early part of the game where I am. You get a couple of objectives, yeah it's quite open-ended, but it just lacks the charm of Fallout 3. I struggled to connect to my character and it didn't seem overly friendly in terms of the UI. I have the potential to like this sort of game, I mean Fallout 3 is pretty much how I envisaged gaming developing into when I was kid, I just think I think it's quite a high-risk type of game to make where I'm concerned, because the execution has to be spot on - and sadly in STALKER, it isn't.

Still got it installed though and will revist one day.

Do you mean cs or shoc.

I felt a little like you in a way, even thou i loved the original stalker.
So i modded my character to look like my daughter, which then made the game more personel.

Have you tried Penumbra. (Clean pants all the way).

I love Fallout 3 as well.

SHOC (still haven't got round to that moniker, I'll always think of it as Oblivion Lost!).
Probably the sort of game where if I was locked in a room and had to play it for a full day I'd get in to it, I don't think it helps that I don't fully understand the artifacts and game mechanics etc, I took the first couple I found back to the trader but I'm guessing I'm 'sposed to actually keep them for the benefits?

You can sell them or use them for their properties. Most will have both positive properties and negative properties, hence you have to decide what is most beneficial to you in any given situation. What you'll find though is that you can actually cancel out most of the negative properties by using the right combination of artifacts. Finally, there a few very rare artifacts that only have positive effects which are obviously highly valued.

A detailed guide can be found below (warning: website contains spoilers!):

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention, the site above is for SOC not Clearsky

Both SOC and CS are amazing games, but sadly a lot of people get put off by two things:

1. They were buggy as hell on release. The vast majority of these issues were thankfully resolved as the game was actually quite well supported and numerous patches were released.

2. You can't really get a good feel for the game in just 2 or 3 hours of play. Firstly because it takes quite a while to get used to the game mechanics - dealing with radiation, understanding artifacts, the trade system and upgrade systems, inventory management - which aren't particularly straight forward and are not that well explained in the opening tutorials/early levels. And secondly, because all your equipment is so poor at the start, with decent weapons becoming particularly hard to come by. This can create some real no-go areas as you tend to get killed pretty quick if you don't have some backup along for the ride.

As already mentioned, there are some good guides kicking about on the likes of gamefaqs that can help get your head around the gameplay mechanics. If you can get an understanding of these, and then spend much of the early hours of the game treating it very much as a matter of survival rather than trying to run and gun everything in sight, it really does develop into a very very good game.

I loved the guns and the ballistics model in the game, and the whole survival aspect. Not to mention the awesome atmosphere throughout, which i thought the slightly ramshackle presentation in terms of dialogue only added to. And the upgrade system they introduced in CS was a great improvement to the game compared to SOC.

But it does seem to be a bit 'marmite' for most people. And certainly nothing like as easy to get into as Fallout 3 was. Having played both to death though, there's no doubt for me that Stalker is the game i prefer.

Digging up and old thread instead of starting a new one.

In Clear Sky how do I equip artifacts? I got the game yesterday and found a jellyfish artifact. I seem to remember screen shots showing the artifacts to the left of the equipment being used but dragging or double clicking the artifact does nothing. Do I get the benefits just by carrying it. So long since I played Shadow of Chernobyl I cannot remember. The manual doesn;t seem to help and I cannot find an answer online.

Found the answer now. Obviously you cannot use them until you get a new jacket - bit poor isn't it?

Quick question for those that have played.

When getting NPC missions I have a few regarding delivering ammunition. I have enough of the type of ammo but don't know how to deliver it to? If I go back to the bloke who gave me the mission there is no option to give him the ammo and I can only trade food with him.

when you go to the guy (some missions are asking you to deliver ammo to other people) he will be marked on your pda if you click the eye button next to teh quest, in the dialoge options (not trade) it will say "I've brought the items you requested" or somthing similar click that.

make sure you actually do have enough of the ammo though, (always best to have a little extra to be sure) or it wont show.

Also try a mod called clear sky enhanced 1.2 (colection of awesome translated Russian mods) and the sharper texture mod
