Card details stolen

Hi

I'm pretty sure my card details have been used for online purchases that I didn't make, four from the same store (Lebara Mobile, two £20 purchases and two £10 purchases) and one for an O2 topup.

I have no idea what to do now, and I have no idea how they have got my details either as there are no viruses of any sort on my PC.

Can anyone advise me on what to do next?

Thanks for your help.

Call your bank, cancel your cards. Most banks now have dedicated fraud departments that should be able to help you reclaim your lost funds.

Actually yes, I have used No competitors. (sorry if it classed as mentioning a competitor, I don't know if it is or not) in the past, last time was probably over three months ago though.

Yep, it's an easy way to verify that the card hasn't been cancelled without having to go into a shop or do stuff online where traces would be left. Buy a pay as you go mobile and use that to test the card - virtually risk free.

@ Op..... why haven't you contacted your bank / credit card company? That's the first thing I'd do.

A lot of ppl that have used Shopto have reported cc fraud, especially o2 top ups. It may be unrelated, but there does seem to be a lot of instances where shopto and cc fraud go hand in hand. I've used them myself without any problems, but it's something to be wary about.

I have just contacted the 24 hour fraud line thing, my card has been cancelled and they are sending me a new one and then I need to contact another fraud line tomorrow about getting the refunds etc.

Their next move if the card is not stopped, is to use it to it's limit.

Cancel the card as soon as, but i am sure you have already done so, so no worries.

Why ask when you have already done what the answers will be, unless you are a moron.

Not very often to be honest, I use it mostly for online purchases at Amazon/Play/The Hut group stores mainly.

Covering the keypad with a wallet or whatever as you key in the PIN is a good habit to get into as hidden cameras above can link the PIN to the card that is scanned on a discreet reader and transmitted to a nearby car etc with the scammer in it.

This can also be done with someone surfing your shoulder and getting the PIN while a fake card slot gives the impression of swallowing your card but it is retrieved later by the gang.

The above isn't the only way your card can be cloned and transactions be made but it is something to be aware of.

Don't we all cover our numbers as we type these days.

Mind you a quick check of the cashpoint would soon set your mind at rest if you don't find any hidden cameras.
Which 99.999% of the time there won't be.
