Will You Buy Windows 7???

Peter,

There is an upgrade version of Windows 7 as well as a full version. If you are planning on purchasing Windows 7 when it is released it may be helpful to know you don't have to wait until October to reserve your copy of Win 7! You can pre-order your copy of Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional today. For more information, see the Windows 7 Pre-Order offer page

Home premium for everyone except those who need RDP in which case Pro.

Pro is what I have pre-ordered and installed!

64bit too, if you install 32bit then you will get a slap.

I've not really time to go through all this thread but what version is every going for? Looking at the differences, Home Edition looks ample.

Home Premium x64, doesn't have remote desktop, limited to 16gb ram, can't join domains

personally, going for the above.

I didn't really think twice about the 16GB limitation of Premium as I don't think there will be a day this side of the next 5 years where 16GB will be ideal :p but yeah, the domain and rdp features may be important for some - I know someone will patch RDP host into premium like they did with Vista but it won't happen any time soon and I cannot wait that long :p

That's a retail copy Huddy so it will include both the 32-bit and 64-bit software.

64-bit support:

If you’ve gone PC shopping lately, you’ve probably noticed more computers with 64-bit processors, and you may have wondered what advantages they offer.

Put simply, a 64-bit PC can handle larger amounts of information than a 32-bit system. Since it can use more RAM—4 GB and up—a 64-bit computer can be more responsive when you're running lots of programs at once.

Whichever system you choose, Windows 7 is ready. All packaged retail editions of Windows 7 (except for Home Basic) include both 32- and 64-bit software.

Windows 7 features - 64-bit support

I'm a little confused, I'm after Windows 7 home premium retail which is £65.99 on OCUK, the retail version on another website is £149.99, but on that same website the "upgrade" version is £79.99. Which version is OCUK selling and if it is the retail why is it less than half price?

Overclockers are selling the Retail version of Windows 7. As for the price difference, I believe the reason for that is because Overclockers are still offering Windows 7 at a discounted price as opposed to some of the other retailers where they have began to sell Windows 7 at the original price. I think that's the only reason. Nothing to worry about I don't think.

edit... is that 2 seperate disks or is there an option on install?

I'm not entirely sure but I'll expect the 32-bit and 64-bit software will be on separate media.

Anyone know how much space Win7 Pro/Ultimate installation takes up on HD?

And when can we expect Win7 64bit hardware drivers?

I'm not sure if i should buy this or not. You can get W7 Premium for £44 on a supermarket website using a voucher.

I have Vista basis at the moment and my brother is still on XP. He only plays darkfall and CS and i'm not sure if we need it.

Is it worth it?

Got 4 copies of Pro on order, but getting tempted to drop two of them down to the home edition. Paid £99 each for the Pro copies.

Iam still undecided as to "Should I cancel my pre-order Home premium copy"
I have been testing out the msdn windows 7 both 64 bit and 32 bit ultimate editions
I have to do this for work for compatability testing of our in house software

The 64bit ultimate edition has been a pain the the bottom on 2 completely different systems
It wont work right with DVB-S cards and has a lot of audio problems when playing back
music / movies , most likely its driver related but no editions of drivers I have tried has
fixed it yet.

I will be giving the 32bit edition a good going over in the next week , to see if it fares any better.

The 32bit RC was pretty good out of the box , not so impressed with the RTM 64bit.

Yes. Windows 7 is a much better OS than XP, and better than Vista Basic as well. The current pricing is great, and it is well worth the money for a full retail copy.

Some say the pricing might continue after launch, and they might be right, but the price is so cheap it's not worth the risk that it will go back up to full price IMO.
