new internet tax

I'd be delirious with 50Mbit/s

I live in the east of Coventry on a popular newish estate and can't get better than a IP profile of 1750 on ADSL2+

Meanwhile less than a mile down the road they can get 16+

Why should i have to pay the same as someone who gets 8 times faster than me? Not my fault my line is made of cheese.....
I'd be happy with 50 Mbps now too, I was talking about if it'll be enough in 2017 going by the rate at which connection speeds have increased in the previous 8 years :)
Who knows what services we'll be getting through our internet and what other appliances will connect to the internet by then.

You're making the assumption that people living in the country are loaded..

I don't want others to pay for it, after all if EVERYONE paid then it's fair isn't it.. perhaps the tax is wrong (god knows they waste enough money on pointless schemes etc) but my beef is that people are simply saying "I live in an urban area.. screw everyone else" when really, shouldn't everyone get the same level of service if they pay the same price? I see it as selfish.

If everyone did pay then yes it would be fair if it also benefited everyone. But it doesnt. It benefits some areas that arent fiancially viable customers because they live in isolated areas where the cost to improve out weighs the revenue gained from them.

My friend at work gets 50mb cable from VM. I can only get 6.5mb, and before that at another address I could only get 3mb. I would like VM to move cable into my area but I dont expect the rest of the country to fund it.

Its unfortunate but so are a lot of things in life. If its going to effect your life that much move to another area if you think faster downloads will make you happier in life.

I wonder if Mr Bradshaw suffers from poor broadband when he is in his country house, which we pay for with expenses claims? Its the rich looking out for the rich as normal. Lets try and disguise it as a good thing for BRITAIN.

How about every MP not have their £300 rug for their 2nd home and put it towards the bill. ;)

So if you have cable or satellite internet and don't have a fixed line, you don't pay it? Odd.

Load of rubbish, Only just moved to Sky Broadband from Virgin & I'm more than happy with my 13mb line. Why is it only BT line users have to pay but no one else?

Another excuse to put another stupid tax on us.

I guess the VAT on the services just isn't enough - wouldn't want to get in the way of delivering that world class 2Mbps service would we?

They should scrap the "2Mbps to every home" idea and just put the money toward a FTTH/FTTC (Fibre to the home/Fibre to the Cabinet) scheme.

I'm sure they'd get more people willing to pay the 50p/month tax if they could provide a more substantial benefit.

This is one tax that won't see a riot, probably why they've done it. They're probably laughing at the mental image of several thousand keyboard warriors marching on Downing Street.

Seriously though, I think a generic over-taxation protest/riot is well over due...

/grabs "old beigey" the Microsoft Natural keyboard (got a good weight)

These ******* should be struck up at the crack of dawn and shot!
Its 50p a month now but we all know that wount last and it will only go up and up and up!

And why do i have to pay for it?
Why dont they scrap ID scheme or get the monies back from the banks and let that pay for it?

Soon, we will all be geting taxed 50% of our income in 1 way or another!
It makes financial sense to be unemployed!!!

**** you labour! You bunch of muppets!
I hate politicians. They all are slimey **** sucking **** ****** !!!!

Screw yous!

I cba going into this now. It is a very complicated subject on which I have many opinions.

In short I am against a tax increase but I am not against Subsidies for broadband.
