Leaving Work - Pay, can they stop it?

I don't know whether or not this is still the case but I walked out of a job on payday once and they were able to reverse the payment transaction, money came back out of my account 3 days later.

It was 15 years ago and it was a major financial institution so I don't know if that makes any difference...

I thought this but when I get paid tomorrow, I'm just gonna clear out my account :p

IIRC, you work for the same place I used to and I also walked on them without notice. Big Boss man called me that morning I didn't turn up and I told him I wouldn't be back and my reasons why.

somebody told me that they (the company I work for now) could keep trying to charge the money back in days to come. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Which I hope was said in jest.
As the reverse charge will go through, you'll be in the red and you'll get bank charges.
So probably not the best thing to do.

It aint worth their while, i did the same thing when i worked for a company for 1mnth and hated it, took a days leave money went into bank, then sent an email saying i wouldn't be back. I prolly owed them a weeks wages and never heard anything.

Well, it all kicked off yday. I checked my bank account for my wages that were being paid in (can check a day before payday) and all was fine. My manager found out that I was leaving yday and was actin funny all day, I thought she was just sad lol. Payslips came round at about 3pm and I opened mine and seen that the pay was far less than I was expecting. I kicked off and my manager pulled me into another room and said that they reprinted my payslip as they understood I was leaving yday and that they took the money that I apparently owed them from 2006 due to no fault of my own.

Well, I checked on my home and it still said that my proper wages were going in. I got up this morning and checked and I didn't get paid. I checked and found out that my 'old' work had recalled the money. I contacted them and they said that they would process a CHAPS and I was paid this morning, £200 down. I can't believe they can get away with this.

So annoyed and glad to be out of that badly run company.

They were within their rights to deduct money owing. What I can't understand is why they let it lie for 3 years, or why you let it lie for 3 years either?

damn right
although maybe take them to employment tribunal or talk to CAB, what proof do they have that you owe the money?
