It's driving me mad!!

Vista freezes our Laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501 1Gb PC-5300, Turion Cpu).

Initially the Laptop started getting quite hot, so I cleared the grill and fan inside and thought that would sort it. It has made no difference. So then I 'googled' about.

Ran CCCleaner to get rid of 'crap' and heal registries etc.
Defragmented.
Ran AVG and Adaware to clean it up.
Stopped any unnecssary services/processes at startup.

Also, I read something about Windows indexing being a hog on resources, so I went disable this and only the start menu is being indexed (which is advised).

I want to reinstall vista, but I need to burn/move/copy to flash, but If I can get the process to work it says 64 days for this to complete:eek:

btw safe mode seems fine.

Any ideas please?

Could be a driver issue on main boot up if safe mode is fine.

turion
1gb

those are the underlying problems

poor cpu and not enough ram, need 2gb for Vista to run well

remove AVG it's pap

install the new 'microsoft security essentials' as your AV, it's rather good :)
