**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

From what reviews ive seen, the game has been given an 8.5-9.
The pros:
oldschool rpg fans will love it
amazing story
very lengthy like baldurs gate 2

Cons:
Graphics aint amazing
new generation rpg fans the oblivion/mass effect/ fallout 3 era will probably not enjoy this.
pretty hard game for your average player

The two reviews i read dont mention any bugs, and as for the cons some of them are pros for me like being old school and being a hard game that requires you to think about your battles and how you spend your points on levelling up.

At last an rpg thats for the hardcore rpg fans again, if you enjoyed baldurs gate and even neverwinter nights this is really for you.

As for it being consoly, the pc version was made first, so all the consoly stuff is left out. Even for the console its just small changes like the controls and stuff like that.

So it sounds like it's for us fans of old RPGs rather than this modern tosh? Fantastic :D

Saying that, I did like Oblivion/Mass Effect/Fallout 3, it's just for me they don't compare to older games like Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Planescape Torment and Fallout 1 and 2.

i enjoyed thoes games too, but basically its about time we had a good old school rpg game thats for the hardcore rpg fans.
The reason the reviewer found the game hard was cause he was on a deadline so he couldnt take his time and do the sidequest to get himself stronger, so i would say thats the only unfair remark he made but at least hes honest.

EDIT: He was also very suprised on the length he thought when he got a certain boss fight that was it but the game just carried on and on and on.........

i love the "old school" style of rpg but i hate the fighting, and as you do this for such a long time at points (or at least it looks like you do) i think this may end up being a huge pain that i don't end up enjoying it. i wish they'd make a game exactly like this but with lotr rotk style fighting so you can kill 3/4 bad guys in one swing :)

i'm not sure what i'll be doing, may end up waiting for it to come down in price a little then get it for xmas second hand or something.

I am on old school rpg fan, I loved dungeon siege, NWN, morrow wind, baldurs gate - but the sluggish combat in DAO just prevents me from being excited about it. Going back to those games it's probably no different, but maybe I've just come to expect more from the genre now. Something slightly more exciting than the step forward, slash, step back - with spells in between. There's not much better than a classic styled rpg that ticks all the old genre boxes, but it just feels with all the advancments we have now, that the combat should have advanced too :(

at least give the demo ago if there is one, you might suprise yourself. By the sound of it you might enjoy it.

well i haven't struck it off completely yet, I'm still in two minds about it, watching the gameplay vids. Guess I'll have another look at it when people have got it and there's a bit more information and footage about.

I am so looking forward to this. I've loved Bioware for their NWN, BG series and hope this will take on that footstep. I am however in 2 mind to getting this on PC or the 360...

Point and click is great for RPG but I'm so used to console these days... :/

Sounds awesome, just pre-ordered it last night. It's long overdue for a polished old-school style rpg on the PC.

Oblivion was rubbish, FO3 was a slightly more polished version of Oblivion and while Mass effect was good it suffered from console issues. Drakensang was pretty uninspiring and have not played Risen yet so that pretty much leaves the Witcher as the only decent RPG since NWN...

What's mainly been missing from modern RPG's has been a storyline. Forget fancy combat or next gen graphics or whatever other junk they try to add because if there's not a deep storyline then it's not a proper RPG.
