I was thinking last night, what game should i play after im through with Mirrors Edge (fantastic game btw
). Buy a new one or look in my collection for one that i havn't played right through or maybe an old classic.
A few games caught my eye. I knew they we're classics but i was telling myself "don't bother, there ****".
So what games have you tried that are deemed 'classics' by a large number of the gaming community or by critics / reviews? Here's a few of mine.
Supreme Commander
Now i know technically it was a huge step up from previous RPG's, but wow is it dull.
From Dune to C&C (originals, not the recent EA pap), Warcraft 3 and Starcraft to Dawn of War, ive loved them all. I think the problem with Sup Com is its too clinical and i don't care for any of the factions. Lost a marine squad in DoW? noooo!. Your Orc Grunts in War3 are getting hammerd?
Lost a tin can in Sup Com? couldn't give a ****, theres 200 more of them right behind it. After about 6 missions i turned it off. Ive tried to get into once or twice since then on seperate occasions, but all have resulted in failure
Just not interested.
Spore
I followed this game for years in its development and it seemed to be taking the form of a superb game with great ideas (plenty of youtube vids of early footage if you didn't). What happened to it? Its as if someone in the company said "its gonna take another 3 years to make it one of the best games of all time" the reply? "have it ready in 3 weeks, just chop it into mini games, don't worry, it'll still sell".
I really did feel robbed when i played it on release day. First part was actually quite fun, growing as a cell, although it was a bit like a polished flash game, but i didn't hold that against it. The other few mini games? utter crap is the only way to describe it.
Would be great to know what games you thought we're a bit meh, but celebrated as classics by everyone else
