hello im 17 and in collage, my mum claimed child benefit and i havent seen a single penny of it for well my entire life, so i asked my mum why doesnt the child receive the CHILD benefit and she said shes buying food and paying bills with it etc, so i thought ok thats fair.:)

the i got out of collage and the benefit was canceled, after around 6months i have noticed no change without the benefit(still buying same stuff regularly etc), and i have no idea were on earth it was going.

now iv started collage again, and we now get the benefit, iv grown out of all my cloths and only have 2 pairs of trousers that fit me and a pair of old trainers that a falling apart.
so asked her if i could have the child benefit so i could put it aside and spend it on cloths that i need badly, and she says no.

im old enough to know what to spend it on etc.
the benefit is £20 per week :(:(

what do you think, THX dudes.

Erm.. I grew up without being given my 'child benefit'

I've always been under the impression that it helped your parents to buy you're food.. and clothes and anything else.

Its not EMA.. lolz

Pah just be grateful they pay for everything. As a family we have to be a team to keep ourselves afloat. I don't just drift on by leeching on my parents.

Go get a job and be happy you aren't paying rent.
im trying but it is very very hard to get a job

i know what you mean but since i had not noticed any changes at all with or without it, and iv always had to buy my own cloths with Christmas or birthday money.

If the other posters didn't get the point across, it is blindingly expensive raising a child. "Your" £20 per week doesn't scratch the surface.

Never saw any of it myself, but my mum always looked after me well so I can't complain...

Maybe your mum had to make up the rest from her own expenses or skimp on something to keep you fed?

If your that down on the clothes situation either look for a part time job - its coming upto xmas loads of weekend temp stuff, etc. going - or take it up with your mum.
