that gorgeous bentley

Excuse me but what is this hard work you speak of? He has to turn up to do exercise / training / play football (which no doubt his parents / management take care of) everyday and then rest up at home for the next day. The club pay for all his traveling / living arrangements and basically hold his hand the whole time - and as soon as he makes the grade they'll pay him an obscene amount of money to play more football. If he doesn't "make it" he'll still have been paid crap loads on the way there and then gets to do a normal job like 99% of the population. Oh what a shame.

lol ok mate, you obviously know a lot better.

Maybe you should have chosen a different career path, you seem quite bitter. :D

And the fact he is being paid so much is his fault, because ... ?

10 hours work per week? What about all the charity work/events, the media, 4 or 5 hours per day training, days at a time away for European games etc. time in the gym, getting up early to go running, never drinking/smoking/staying up late, having to eat a very specific diet? While I do agree they get paid far too much, it's not an easy job.

Never drinking/staying up late? Do you read newspapers?

Getting up early to go running / going to the gym? Of course, no one else does these things?

Time away working? Of course people in offices never get sent to work in another office?

They have it easy compared to your average Joe.

Who has said it is his fault?

We're perfectly at liberty to think his salary is disgusting without attributing "fault" to him.

I don't disagree it is a lot, but I don't think it disgusting that someone is willing to pay him that much for what he does, no matter how much/little 'it' actually is.

It's a very simple case of supply and demand. There is a big demand for talented footballers, and clubs are competing to get said footballers. If club A is offering more than club B, the player is likely to make the logical choice of signing up for club A.

Maybe we should have a capped salary and draft system like the US have for their sports, but then they 'bend' the rules with ridiculous bonus schemes anyway.

I'd also like to add that the football clubs (and lesser extent the players) do return a lot to society in the form of sponsored sporting events for youths (namely junior football teams, coaching, sports equipment and grounds, etc.) and not just for those they think will be future talents.

They also provide, obviously, entertainment for a lot of people.

If we really want to discuss disgusting salaries, what about F1? Alonso just signed up for a contract in the range of £18-£23 MILLION pounds per year. To drive a car.

I wouldnt be bothered if he kept popping up with a cure for cancer or something but no, his job involves kicking a ball around, shouting, for the entertainment of people sat on a sofa drinking Stella on the 'FULL SKY PACKAGE INNIT'

Oh well.

What a ridiculous comment.

How many people, no matter how rich they are come up with a cure for cancer? It is well known that many highly paid professional footballers do a lot for charity.. Rio Ferdinand is one example.

You can belittle football as a profession but as easy as it sounds, it isn't easy at the top level.

And as for your comment about Stella drinking people on the sofa - what about those who pay good money to watch there teams ? You are labelling all armchair fans.

Think before you speak/type as a lot of what comes from you is very intelligent. In this case it wasn't.

:)

Ok fair enough, a few of the younger ones go out on occasion. Usually the young English ones, but the top, top players very rarely drink and smoke as they can't afford to.

Getting up early to go running and then getting to work and doing intense fitness work 4 or 5 hours and then going to the gym for a few hours, not sure many do that ;)

How about not being able to walk down the street without being stopped and asked a stupid question which you've already answered a million times? I know that I'd find that hell. Does your average joe suffer from that?

I don't think a lot of people's hatred of footballers comes from the wages, if they've found a way to make such large amounts of money in such a way then they've done well.

HOWEVER, I do think most peoples hatred of footballers comes from the fact that so many of them come across as vain, shallow chavvy ****ers, who are always seen being up to no good in trendy London nightclubs.

What a tool, i hate footballers they're usually retarded, have stupid hair and go off the pitch if they stub their toe a bit. And their wives are usually the same stupid orange leatherfacers with dogs in their purse.

Waste of a bentley, waste of an R8.

Well whatever your thoughts about the merit of paying £70k a week to top footballers that is no way to treat a Bentley, it's been chavved! And the R8 looks like it's been modelled on a stick of Blackpool rock.

Money > sense.

More footballers have died in recent years than F1 drivers whilst taking part in their chosen sport.

Usually down to something nothing to do with the sport, though, such as sudden cardiac arrest whereas most F1 tragedys occur as a result of the dangerous nature of the sport.

Also, there are more footballers then F1 drivers. Ergo; bound to be more deaths.

If anything, the fact that there are so few F1 deaths caused directly by the sport shows how well trained and talented most of the drivers are.
