Now I don't know about anyone else, but if I hit an Animal (I'm talking Domestic, and more specifically Cats and Small Dogs, thankfully i've never done it) if you ever hit one would you put it to the side of the road? if someone hit my cat I would think that if they hit her, they would at least have that decency and just check for a Collar.. and even if they didn't.. if the Animal had a Chip they could at least confirm it was their animal..

I just saw a guy hit a cat and speed off and it's not like it was a small one either. I had to stop and put the poor bugger to the side of the road (Not a pleasant task when it's intestines were hanging out.) Unfortunatley it had no collar so I placed in on the side of the road with a plastic bag and drove on.

Really makes me sad to the core, that full well could have been someones only companion (A little old lady or something)

/Sorry rant over.

I had to put a poor cat out of its misery one time. Was on the A6 in stockport and the traffic had slowed right down ( rushhour) and there was clearly something going on. When i got to the place there was a cat splattered in the road with its hind legs crushed to mush and its innards all over the place.

The poor cat was still alive somehow, im guessing its heart and lungs were still working and it had not lost enough blood to die yet. Drivers were just going round it, and a small group had formed.

I pulled over and took a quick look and said to the bystanders "why has no one killed the poor ******* yet? " ( or something to that effect ) all i got was blank looks and shrugs.

I went back to the car and got a large spanner from the tyre-well and dispatched the poor bugger with one swift sharp blow. The poor thing was clearly in agony and had zero chance of survival past another few minutes.

Someone had meanwhile grabbed some plastic sheeting from a van and we picked up what we could and moved it over to the side. I left my phone number with the guy who said he knew whos cat it was and left.

That night i got a call from a woman thanking me for ending her cats suffering. She had been given by number by the bloke, turns out the cat was only about 500yards from it house.

I love cats/dogs and id go out of my way to rescue an animal in distress but likewise i have the guts to do whats right when needs be. Im no vet and would only do it when its clearly obvious that the animal has no chance.

Domestic pet, I'll stop if I think it has damaged my car, the owner may be liable.

Farm animal, I will inform the farmer, and begin the necessary legal proceedings.

Wild animal, the most annoying, as there is nobody to be negligent.

sue the council? lol

Sue it's surviving relatives. They can sell themselves to pay off your repair bills for killing their kin.

Deer - take it back home and eat it for writing off your vehicle.

I once hit a dog at around 60 mph, which removed its head and put most of it up the side of my car. and at the same time, broke my bumper, ac and splash guards. Took around 500-600 to get it all fixed.

Sad thing is no one owned it so i had to pay for it myself.

I'd do my best to find the animal if it fled (only if it was a pet though), or scrape it off the road and out of the way of traffic.

I don't recall ever hitting a single mammal in 5 years of driving.

Seems a harsh post. Would like to see you go and inform poor Mrs Jenkins across the road, that after having run over the family pet she is in some way liable for any dents/scratches to your car.

A deer did rather more damage to my friends car than he did to it. He said it ran off without really stopping meanwhile the lights front bumper wings and one door were smacked up on his car!

I think you have to report it if you hit a large animal but even with a small one you should go back and check. The only thing I have hit personally was a baby rabbit that ran out but then changed direction when he had nearly made it. I stopped but could not see it after!

What was the bag for?

Fair play, but i dont think I could have done that, was it looking at you meowing before you cracked it one?
