Well, am I?

For some reason I cannot stand the site. Whether it's the layout, it's slow, the images aren't big enough etc etc. I just cannot stand the place! :p

Am I the only one? or are there any other haters out there to? :D

I'm torn with flickr. Sometimes I dislike it, other times I love it. Once you have sifted through all the rubbish with 50,000 comments of "I AM MODERATOR FOR 'WE LOVE CRAPPY OVERDONE HDR PHOTOS' AND WE WOULD LOVE YOUR PHOTO IN GROUP" and all the rest of it; there are actually some superb pools on there which I've found extremely useful.

I love it, I find it very simple to use and find stuff I want. yet the 'Organizr' can be complex which gives you loads of control over how others view your photos.

As for images being small, it annoys me when people only upload small photos. However I always upload full res images so people can view them in various sizes.

I love it.

Once you work your way around the morons that use it as an ego stroking exercise, I find it to be one of the best inspirations for photography.

The interface could do with some work - I'd like it if I could browse through photostreams by using left and right direction keys but otherwise it's quite polished and has vast content.

I like searching flickr to find examples of particular shots - so for example, I searched for a location I was considering visiting with the camera, and searched for a filter I wanted to buy. Both searches provided results that helped inform my decisions.

Beyond that, I can't really be bothered with it. I find it slow, difficult to navigate and generally irritating. I do wonder if I've not given it a fair chance..... but can't really be bothered to try again lol :p

Was asked by a mate if i have or will get an account there. said I'd rather have my own site for any photo hosting. Phate, you dont have that problem since you've got your site. far better having that and posting your url in forum sites like this as people will still visit and see your own work. On flickr and the likes your photos may get lost in the sheer volume of uploads?

I like it, get views, comments and the publishing I have had, has come from there :p.

It could be better, i dunno if i'd use it as my main photo upload, but i'd always use it I think!

Atm i generally only upload upto 1024x sized images, mostly 800x600, but that's because had a problem a while back when I had uploading full size, someone using it with my watermark cropped off :p. Might start uploading 50% sizes, or something.

I think it comes down to 'how you use it' and 'what you want from it'. The interface could be better I agree, but looking at Deviant Art and others, they have their issues too, yet they are much much smaller in terms of content. Flickr still offers a great deal over the alternatives.

Personally, I love it. It allows me to share my photos among fellow photographers/friends. There are specialist groups which no other online photo hosting even comes close to offering. I bought a panoramic pinhole 120 Holga and needed some help; I got it within minutes from a group for fans of this camera. At the end of the day; don't post in stupid groups like 'post 1, comment on 4 others'; as they are purely for people wanting an ego boost. Why should they bother you? Instead, find some good groups, find some good contacts and build your own great little community. I have made some good friends who I have actually met in person.

Another thing I have found it great for, is finding new photo locations. For example, I looked up Windmills on Flickr, it led me to Chesterton Windmill, I found many shots on Flickr, within a minute I had found one where someone had entered GPS details (clicking 'map', next to the EXIF), and voila entered them into my Tom Tom (longitude/latitude) ... it took me to the exact spot. I have done this time and time again.

I have had a couple of things published too, which would not have happened with my own website. I also don't want to promote myself as a 'Photographer' as I see what I do as a hobby, I also do not see myself good enough to tag that to the end of my name. Flickr keeps it relaxed for me.

:)

Recently become a bif fan of Flickr, especially the stat info you get after upgrading to a pro account. I'll admit there could be a few improvements made when viewing multiple files (option of a slideshow you could whisk through would be great).

But the one thing that has really impressed me is the new iPhone app for Flickr, very handy and enjoyable app.

I never managed to get into Flickr, probably because I started on deviantArt and have since stuck with it. I have my own site, but always upload to both that and DA as there is a level of exposure that I cannot achieve on my own site.

This. Shame theirs so much crap on DA these days :(

My phones got a flickr app that will upload directly... its easier for me to do that and get it from there later than faffing about with cables and memory cards and remembering that I took it.
