What foods won't you eat?

i used to love Liver, now i wont go near it.

hard boiled sweets

chinese take away is becoming more and more rare

i've had to ease myself onto fish. now eating mackrel from a tin, but i wont eat the likes of mussles and sardines yet

Raw tomatoes by themselves
Egg, although I do like omelette
Tripe, tried it once and it was disgusting
Mustard
Liquorice

That's about it really, fussy eaters bother me, as I'm willing to try anything once.

Is it just me, or is the UK the fussy eating capital of the world?

The only thing I really cannot stand that i've eaten, either on it's own or as part of a dish, is cucumber.

How do people not eat onions? You're missing out on so many different dishes if you exclude them from your diet!

I don't think I'd want to eat casa marzu, or those eggs they eat in Vietnam and some parts of france which contain a partially developed chick and are "crunchy" in the middle. There are a few other things i'd draw the line at too, don't think I'd eat some insects.

There isn't any food I won't eat. Food rocks. I can't stand fussy eaters or people who refuse to eat certain things.

If you're genuinely allergic then that's not a problem of course, if you actively gag, again that's fair enough. However lack of adventure and stubborn "I don't like it" comments and attitudes bother me. Of course everyone has different tastes and that's cool, but fussy eaters really make me feel like rolling my eyes several times over.

any reason? Have you actually tried it, or just going on a couple of rubbish takeaways?

Yea tried it, for me its too many flavours that my taste buds don't think work together e.g lemon and chicken and sweet and sour sauce. Just not for me.

<----- Very picky eater

Mushrooms, fish, Liver, kidney(s), tomato sauce, pickle, mint sauce, aubergine, and loads more!

I was a fussy eater before I grew up, like a lot of people I guess. I started cooking with ingredients I either hadn't really tried before or wasn't really fond of. What happened? I realised there was a whole new world of food out there I'd spent years of my life missing out on.

And yeah, the "I don't like it" is one thing, but the worst is "I won't like it!" It's one thing coming from a 5 year old, but from a grown man it's embarassing.

.

Very much so.

But I bet 99% of people are saying hey dislike stuff just because hey have had badly cooked or frozen mush. I bet 99% of people would change here opinion if they tried some properly prepared and cooked food. especially things like blue cheese, aubergine, veg, chinese, indian.
There's so much variety in them. Like people saying blue cheese, but they like normal cheese. There are lot's of mild blue cheeses.

I am taking heart from those of you who used to be fussy eaters but have grown out of it. All our offspring have been brought up the same and the 3 eldest will at least try everything, even if they wouldn't necessarily try it again in the future. Our youngest, aged 4, however is the fussiest blighter I have ever met. The only things that you can guarantee that he will eat are:

Tinned Heinz spaghetti
Plain chicken fridge raiders
sushi
Oreos
Costco hot dogs
tortillas with hummus
McDonalds chicken nuggets
milk with chocolate nesquik
soft boiled eggs, but only laid by our own chickens

He hates all the sort ofthings that you would expect a young man to eat, like chips, burgers, pizza, crisps etc. but the frustrating thing is that there are things that you can't tell whether he is in the mood for them or not, so we end up wasting loads of food.

BTW, if anyone wants to try some gorgeous cheeses then if you're passing Buckingham at any time, pop into our deli and introduce yourselves and get introduced to some very tasty little numbers.

Indeed - I think a lot of people go through that stage, but too many people (and I don't mean to be rude to the Brits) in this country are so boring in terms of new foods owing to their lack of exposure to other cultures. I mean this in, an unfortunate way, not a degrading way. Some of us have been very lucky to have lived around the world and brought up in an environment were gastronomical diversity was rather large. However this brings me on to exactly your poing of "won't" like. The most maddening thing ever! You have an opportunity to open your pallette up to new experiences yet you give yourself a pre-conceived idea that you won't like it... why?! :/

Good on you though for pushing the envelope and trying new things. :)

not that I have kids yet but I plan to one day, can't you try the if you don't eat it you go hungry trick? Or doesn't that work? :o

I'm really not picky at all when it comes to food and will try ANYTHING at least once. There is a few things i absolutely despise though: Broccolli, Liver and Kidney but the worst of all that i wouldn't eat even if you paid me £1,000,000: BLACK PUDDING! **** that.

I keep trying salmon and tuna. I try it cooked in as many ways I can but I just don't like it. I don't enjoy eating it and to me that's a waste :(

Wine is another thing I just don't enjoy, no matter how many different types I try.

One thing I have noticed though, there are a few things that I kept trying and did end up liking - tartare sauce and olives being some key examples, so keep trying it :)

You see I have no issues with that, you've tried it lots of times, and you just don't enjoy it - that's cool, at least you've given it a go. :)

Though if you were at a dinner party and the person asked you "what don't you eat" - I cringe when people make a list.... just eat what you've been given!
