Hello i am new to the forums, so hello everyone :)

I was just wondering what is the best motherboard to buy with the current generation of boards for overclocking the q6600

I was looking at the p5q deluxe p45 based board but really would like a second opinion on that board and any other suggestions that can be thrown in would be welcomed

Thanks :)

q6600 is pretty easy to clock on even older boards like the P35 chipset. I would look for a Gigabyte UD3R/P though if you are planning to switch to a 45nm quad......although you certainly can't go wrong with the p5q series.

I have a Gigabyte P35 board which has been ace, had it for years now and it clocked my E6600 to 3.6, my Q6600 G0 to 3.6 and currently my Q9650 to 4.0 (not even tried going further as 4Ghz was my target!).

Fantastic shelf life for a board that was sub £100 when first purchased.

In my experience, the P5Q-E or the P5Q Pro Turbo are the better choices for CPU overclocking. =)

my maximus 2 formula got 3.4 smoothly but i didnt have a great cooler really. il probs geta q9550 and a custom WCooler.
But again the M2F is great if a bit pricy for a p45

The p5q deluxe is a great board, had 3.8ghz from both a q6600 and q9550, though it is a bit on the steep side price wise.

Hi Setter could you please post your bios settings from P5Q DLX for Q6600.
Thank you
Which particular clockspeed are you hoping to run mate, when i had the q6600/p5q dlx combo i ran it at 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8ghz with varying settings:)

Ok mate heres a few settings i used, i wouldnt guarantee that theyll work for you as no two systems will be the same. All clocks were ran on a 9x multi, fsb-nb strap at 333mhz, pcie frequency at 101.

3.4ghz.
vcore, 1.3750
fsb, 377
All the chip voltages , ie PLL, FSB-TERM and NB, +0.02 above auto.
Ram voltage 2.02, ram was rated at 2.1 but p5qs are reputed to overvolt upto +0.08v

3.6ghz
For 3.6 i simply upped the vcore to 1.4, chipset voltages were kept the same as previous 3.4ghz clock (+0.02 over auto) same for ram as above, 2.02v.

3.8ghz
vcore, 1.50625
fsb, 400
pll, 1.6
fsb-term, 1.34
nb, 1.3

Those are some of the settings i used mate, unfortunately i dont have anything more detailed as i lost some of the settings i had wrote down, your safe upto 1.6v on pll, 1.4 on both nb and fsb term on theese boards, i ran with load line calibration (LLC) enabled on all of the above clocks. I hope this info can be of use to you.:)

A used Abit IP35 Pro would be my choice. Or a used Gigabyte P35-DS4 Rev 1.0. You'll get as much as is possible from a Q6600 on a good P35 board, and there are so many used ones available for £35-£50 that you'd be crazy to drop £100 on a new P45 board.

Look at the highest Q6600 overclocks recorded and most of them are on P35 boards.

I tried yours setting for 3.4Ghz but i changed vcore for 1.30 and been able to run Intel burn test max stress for 15 runs but for some reason OCCT froze just 2 min before end. Any idea why? Should i consider this oc as unstable?

ASUS P5K Deluxe, Abit IP35 Pro, MSI P35 Neo2-FR, Gigabyte P35-DS4 would be the pick of the bunch for me from 2nd hand P35's to pair up with Q6600 :)
