I've never really played online but I've started having a go (figure its the best way to get better)... anyway, it takes me ages to find an opponent with any sort of decent ping, so then ok i get to have a scrap but then as soon as i've finished it fires me back to the menu and i have to find another match, which again takes ages

so i have 2 q's - is there a mode that enables me to keep playing the same opponent cuz once i've found one with a good ping i'd like to keep playing them - secondly - is there a reason hardly anyone has a good ping or is it maybe my connection?

cheers :)

The only way to keep playing after a game ends is to setup a friendly match. Ranked games chuck you back to the menu.

Dunno about your ping indicators. On the PS3 version I found them very unreliable tbh. Some games with 0 bars are lagless and some 5 bar games had lag. Answer may depend on which version you have as I have not played the 360 one online more than a few times.

They have said that they will improve lobby/online options in "Super SF IV", which is due the latter half of next year iirc.

Just keep mashing the "enter game button", regardless of ping indicators.

1 - You want player match to keep playing the same opponent.

2 - Use fight request mode and it will find you the game asap, much better than sitting there spamming the search button like a fool.

3 - SFIV online is terrible. Period. Reaction based fighters aren't great online without roll-back based netcode. The 360 is a lot better than the PS3 for getting in a match in my experience but it's still very poor once you're in a game.
