Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

made a lil vid demo'ing what to do if your engine gets shot out, this often happens in multiplayer.

As soon as the engine cuts pull the right thumbstick DOWN to get as much air going though the rotors on the way down, then when close to the ground apply full power and you should rapidly slow your descent and be able to make a safe landing.

Engine gets cut at the 5 second mark.

obviously the vid is a textbook situation, but this works at any height and can work even if your over trees, you just need to slow your descent down enough not to explode on impact :)

autorotation...i remember simulating that on the original Gunship from microprose years ago...all i remember is to "up the torque" just before you hit the ground...you only get one chance to do it as "upping the torque" makes the choppers blades "bite into the air" allowing you to have a nice soft landing if performed correctly....you may get away with a purple heart;)

is it me or is completing a level on hardcore mode so much more satisfying than on normal, im on mission 4 now, it can only go down hill from now on :(

Great :p

So basically I'm now going to have to start the whole mission again, which incidentally had taken me 1 hour 50 minutes :p
You can shave 90 mins off that time if you don't stop for a pint :D

That's nice 'n' all. But ..

A) MP lags like hell with the helicopters (unless you are host).
B) How likely is the engine to fail, normally the blades get shot off?
C) If you jump out you kind of float to the ground anyway.

a)well obviously nothing can be done about lag untill cm fix that, but i've had a few games where i wasnt host and could easily fly the helio

b)normally the engine gets shot out for me, i've only had the rotors come off once in multiplayer

c)yeah but you die from the fall lol

made another vid to simulate a multiplayer game and being shot down.

not the best landing but the idea is to survive the crash

Just got 1000GS on this. Did hardcore campaign solo :D

Lol wonder where you had been hiding. This thread has been awefully quiet without your presence :D

How did you find hardcore on your own? Intact I shouldn't be asking really I still haven't got that far through the campaign yet!

What baffles me about this game is there no health status or indicator for the helicopter. One moment it's flying along normally, next moment it's falling from the sky.

It's oversights like that which ruin the game in my opinion. It had the potential to be awesome but they half-assed it.

I did find it harder then with mates but because of the nature of the game I never felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall.

Its very easy to mix up your game and with some good tactics make your job a lot easier. I just kept the medic by my side and sent the other 2 guys on flanking jobs.

It can be a bit of a ****er when you're 40 mins in a single stray bullet hits you in the head  but that's life :D

A couple of the missions I quit out and did on normal to get a feel for the map. But most of them I just did straight through on hardcore for the first time.

You doing it solo? I've yet to try hardcore mode.

Solo Hardcore for me at the moment.

Up to mission where you rescue the pilots (4?) without any trouble.

Steamed through the previous missions only after failing the first by taking it slow (chopper pilot announced he had 2 minutes of fuel when I was still on the hill overlooking the light house).

Still want to Co-op in Hardcore at some point.

misson 10 easiest mission buy a square mile, got the achievement for not firing a single bullet on that one too :)

Right ive had it with this game!!!

On level 3 on normal difficulty and ive spent over 12 hours so far and im stuck. Its the objective "secure the beachead". I fight my way into a village to take out AT soldiers then i have to hold the town off from counter attack.

Ive managed to kill all the enemy who couter attack but then i just hear "dagger one to dagger two, pull back". Then it just says mission failed.

Done every other objective!

any ideas?
